WANTED: NEW BOARD MEMBERS FOR ESCAPE 18-19
Dear ICM students,
Our time as the board has nearly come to an end. That is why we are searching for people who would like to take on the challenge of becoming a board member. Besides the practical skills you will learn as a board member, you will also expand your contacts throughout the entire hogeschool and finally it is also a perfect addition to your CV.
Below you can see an overview of all the positions you can apply for:
Chairman/woman:
The chairman or woman is the “leader” of the team. This person is the face of the association and is the question beacon for members and board members (of other associations). One of the responsibilities of a chairman is leading the meetings with the board.
Key responsibilities:
- Leading the meetings
- Attend meetings with other board/management of Creative Business
- Public speaking at events
- Personal projects
- Overseeing other board members
- Help board members when needed
What I liked the most about this year? All the contacts I made with people from all different studies, the parties we were invited to as a board, but also the practical skills I gain by facing struggles and how to overcome them.
Secretary:
The tasks of the secretary are quite simple. You make records of what is being said during the meetings, are in charge of the inbox and mail contact with associates, and if needed step in for the chairman when it comes to leading the meetings when he isn't available.
What I liked most about this year
Being able to work in a dedicated team and finding solutions together. We organized some awesome activities with Escape and it was nice to see people having fun at an event that you were partly responsible for.
Treasurer:
In the role of Escape board treasurer, you take care of the “treasury” of the whole Escape. In layman’s terms, you handle the money of the association. Since you are a board member, you also participate to the board’s decision-making process and help with organizing all tasks and events related to the association. The biggest responsibility of this position are the decisions related to the budget and how to use the funds, and for what purpose.
As a treasurer, you are responsible for:
- Making an early budget overview to show for our contact person(s) at HU.
- If necessary, creating and planning subsidy request(s) for our contact person(s).
- Handling the expenses and revenues of ESCAPE in our online account and communicating with the stakeholders about money-related matters.
- Handling the fund requests for events you receive from different ESCAPE committees
- Providing committees with a budget template.
- Advising committees them about financial capabilities and feasibility of their plan.
- Evaluating requests and either approve or disapprove them.
- Possibly being the financial organ of the Introduction camp (Escape acts as the intermediary between HU and the introduction camp team, to make decision more agile for the intro team).
- Participating in Board activities and networking, as well as common and organizational decisions made in the board.
Being the treasurer requires some getting used to, but overall, it is very enjoyable job that also feels fulfilling and provides some valuable experience on strategic thinking and organizational skills. What I liked the most in this position, is that in this position you can make a difference and learn to work independently to benefit the whole association.
PR-Official:
As a PR-Official you are in charge of all the promotion activities of Escape online and offline. Experience with Photoshop is recommended for this position. It is also the most creative postion of them all, because you can express your creativity in your posters for the Facebook-page.
Key responsibilities:
- Managing the social media plaforms
- Planning all the content of the committee posts
- Create the monthly newsletter
- Create posters, banners etc.
One of the things I like the best about this year in the board of Escape was going to all the parties and drinks for free and thereby connecting to other boards as well.
External Relations:
In this position you are mainly helping out with any tasks or preparations that need to be done and are supporting the other board members in all board activities.
A special focus lies however on the external relations, which means getting sponsorships, discounts or organize collaborations. We for example arranged a collaboration with a bar in Utrecht that gives Escape Members discounts on their drinks.
For that you need to find suitable partners, arrange meetings with them and create contracts. It’s fun work because you have many options to find partners and mainly need to be open and able to negotiate.
Besides this you will also be responsible for the Education Committee, which will arrange study related activities, such as business visits or guest talks. We arranged meetings and discussed and planned activities.
I enjoyed being a board member because you have many options to create activities for the students and learn a lot about planning and organizing.
Everybody in the team contributes in a different way, which can sometimes be hard but also really beneficial because you learn to organize the team work and how to work together successfully. Overall, I really liked the experience and what I have learned from it will definitely be helpful in the future.
