The 𝑭𝒐𝒐𝒅 𝑳𝒐𝒔𝒔 𝑪𝒊𝒏𝒆𝒎𝒂 was held on 𝒍𝒂𝒔𝒕 𝑾𝒆𝒅𝒏𝒆𝒔𝒅𝒂𝒚, 𝑶𝒄𝒕𝒐𝒃𝒆𝒓 16, 2024, in Amersfoort, on 𝑾𝒐𝒓𝒍𝒅 𝑭𝒐𝒐𝒅 𝑫𝒂𝒚, organized by the Netherlands Food Partnership. The documentary was created by Mehrab Marri (Junior Researcher in the FORQLAB project), and the interactive idea was a co-creation of Wim Goris and Mehrab Marri. The event was hosted/facilitated by VHL alumni Cynthia Onyangore, Bethel Pendo, Olumide Hadi Kareem, and Patricia Korir.

The parallel session of VHL was a successful event that showcased research on food losses in Kenya's dairy and avocado value chains and included videos submitted by partners of the Netherlands Food Partnership. The interactive format of the cinema, which included short clips followed by questions to test viewers' knowledge, effectively engaged attendees and sparked curiosity about the project's methodology and future directions. A total of 203 visitors viewed (partly or selected) the documentary, and 93.6% of attendees (190 out of 203) actively participated in the documentary's interactive elements and viewed a total of 80 minutes of the documentary.

The cinema attracted a diverse audience, including professionals from various sectors, who were inspired by the project's findings and eager to explore the research further. Many viewers were particularly interested in learning about the data collection process, the management of the living lab, the roles of different actors in the research, and the experience of collaboration between the participating research institutions.

The cinema's success can be attributed to its ability to tell the story of food loss in a compelling and engaging way. By highlighting the collaborative efforts of academia, civil society, government, and the private sector to address food loss, the cinema demonstrated the potential for systemic change.

One of the most notable aspects of the cinema was its ability to spark conversations and inspire action among attendees. Many viewers expressed interest in accessing the films online for future reference and in exploring the research further. Some were eager to apply the findings to their own work, while others were inspired to get involved in the fight against food loss.
To enhance the cinema's performance and effectiveness, it was suggested that future versions include translations into different languages to accommodate audiences who do not speak English. This would make the cinema more accessible to a wider range of people and increase its impact.

Overall, the Food Loss Cinema was a highly effective event that successfully told the story of food loss in Kenya's dairy and avocado value chains. It demonstrated the potential for collaboration between different actors to address food loss and contribute to long-term food security. The cinema served as an intriguing starting point, with the potential to inspire action among diverse audiences/stakeholders and reduce the food loss and waste.

At the end of November, Agricultural Production chain management (MSc) students went on an excursion to have insight into Business economics at Icecream Farm ( IJsboerderij 'de Steenoven') Hummelo. The entrepreneur and Alumni of Van Hall Laresntein, Pelgrom (1993-99) gave a tour to the students and explained the dynamics of farm management. Where the main product is not just ice cream but also meat & milk. And the end he offered students ice cream to taste and enjoy.

In Autumn, Our Master's students had an interesting excursion to the Open-Air Museum where both Management of Development (MSc) and Agricultural Production Chain Management (MSc) students compared Dutch history and culture with their own cultures.

Furthermore, the Agricultural Production Chain Management student, Erikan (with the help of Mehrab Marri) made a vlog where she asked about the experiences and reflections of students all around the world. Our Master’s students are mostly mid-career professionals who come here for one year to learn and be educated. They can then promote sustainable development and businesses back in their home countries. The visit to the Open-Air Museum was the first excursion of their studies where they can see how Dutch history has evolved and how the focus is now on development that can mitigate the environmental effects of climate change.
