Hogeschool Van Hall Larenstein heeft het Achterhoek Food Manifest ondertekend. Hiermee bevestigt de onderwijsinstelling de samenwerking met platform Achterhoek Food. John Raggers (directeur Onderwijs) en Heinz Evers (opleidingsmanager en Achterhoek Food-onderwijscoΓΆrdinator) namen het handgemaakte bord in ontvangst met daarop de acht aandachtsgebieden van platform Achterhoek Food.

Heinz Evers: β€œHet onderwijsnetwerk van Achterhoek Food biedt inspiratie voor praktische vernieuwing van veel bestaande lessen en projecten. We zetten ons in om dit onderwijsnetwerk verder te versterken en te benutten voor onze eigen organisatie Γ©n de initiatieven in de regio. We vinden het van belang om studenten van diverse opleidingen in aanraking te laten komen met kennis over duurzame, gezonde en regionale voeding. Dit zijn zowel Nederlandse als internationale studenten, zodat we een internationaal netwerk kunnen benutten.”

🌟 Kicking off the academic year with taste, culture, and connection! 🌟

Today, we welcomed our new FT and IAT students who come from countries such as the Netherlands, Vietnam, Ireland, France, Hungary, India, Kazakhstan, and many more!

To get to know each other better, we spent the day exploring, tasting, and laughing together:

πŸ₯– A visit to Stichting Klarendalse Molen - De Kroon, where passionate millers shared their stories about the mill, the craft of making flour, and some stories on Arnhem.
🎭 A theatre sports session with Danny Smits that helped everyone loosen up and connect β€” proof that breaking the ice doesn’t require actual iceπŸ˜‰
πŸ₯ͺ A beautiful and delicious lunch by Kookkunsten, full of both sweet and savoury treats. The vegan options amazed our curious students, and questions were asked about the possibilities to bake without eggs..catering
🍷 A guided tour and tasting at the Robbers en van den Hoogen to round off the day. Thank you, Martijn Versteeg and Michiel Hendriks!

It was an informative and tasteful start to the year, and we’re excited to see where the journey takes our students next!

Friday 13 June, our students, together with students from five other educational programmes, will present their innovative ideas at the Business Fair and Innovation Market! You are all invited! Are you not able to join us? Please check the online presentations via www.hvhlbusinessfair.nl, which will be ready for you on 11 June.

Our first-year students present their new food products, containing products that improve health, taste and/or sustainability. Two examples:

πŸͺ„ β€œTula” a nutritional powder that enriches the food of people in disadvantaged areas.

πŸͺ΄ "Zonder" a pre-sliced, plant-based chorizo-style product designed for meat-sceptical consumers.


Our second-year students present their sustainable business plans and the research they did to validate their business decisions. Two examples:

🍿 "Bugbites" Crisps based on insects, a snack to enjoy, but they offer a smaller carbon footprint.

πŸ“¦ "Mycopack" Packaging solutions crafted from mycelium.

Our students will be judged by professional jury members Ad Weijters, Jorien Hattink, Sonja van der Eijk, Mark van Westerlaak, Raphael Sars and Tim Otterspoor on feasibility, sustainability and social media performance. In addition, visitors can vote for their People's Choice award.

Proud! A new chapter in the lives of two 3rd year FT students has started: Dutch Bites! An innovative food start-up.

For the specialization project for their Food Technology course, Pepijn and Danique developed a delicious vegan and gluten-free bitterbal in collaboration with Lekker Lupine. This bitterbal contains the residual products of the lupine bean, which also makes it a 'sustainable crust'.

They would like to thank Food Technology - University of Applied Sciences van Hall Larenstein for the time, energy and feedback they have put into their product. And especially for the enthusiasm and help to grow their project into a business. They can't wait to share their creation and are curious if you are as enthusiastic as they are...to be continued... 😊
