PhD seminars at UiS: Department of Chemistry, Bioscience and Environmental engineering are back again!
Camilla Christina Pedersen from Jodi Maple Grødem’s lab and Hiwot Tiruye from Kåre Bredeli Jørgensen’s lab presented their thesis work.
"Ultrasensitive biomarker signatures for improved clinical trial recruitment in early-stage Lewy Body disease."- Camilla Christina Pedersen
Parkinson’s disease (PD) is the second most common neurodegenerative disorder, for which there is no disease-modifying treatments, and affects about 20 000 people in Norway alone. While there are challenges is both diagnosing PD and developing treatments to relieve symptoms, biomarkers can aid in disease diagnosis, as well as be used to detect changes that occur due to the course of the disease or due to the use of medications. I will be presenting on the development and use of biomarkers in PD.
"Green Synthesis of PAH Quinones by Continuous Flow Electrochemical Oxidation Reactions."Hiwot Tiruye
Hiwot’s talk was focused on her project's results involving synthesizing small PAH-quinones. In this project, they have explored the electrochemical of small PAHs and developed this new synthesis approach to make PAH metabolites.
Thanks to Associate Professor Krista Kaster and Institute leader Ingunn W. Jolma for organising the talks.
