The Department of Environment Science organized a guest lecture titled, " Macrofauna in alpine streams - Climate change and other impacts " by Dr. Dean Jacobsen from Copenhagen University. The main takeaway of the lecture was synergistic effects of climate change and other stressors on high altitude water bodies.

Learning beyond the classroom Environmental Science (4th Year, 1st Sem) students of Kathmandu University attended a one-day program on Solid Waste Management and Women Entrepreneurship, exploring real-world practices and inspiring change-makers.

The faculties of the Department of Environmental Science had discussions with the members of the Mahila Jagaran Community, Banepa on soil quality improvement. The department is collaborating with the Mahila Jagaran Community, Banepa and will involve the students in soil quality monitoring.

Dr. Ingrid Juettner - Principal Curator of Botany from the National Museum of Wales delivered presentations to the students of the Department of Environmental Science and the Department of Environmental Engineering. Her presentations focussed on diatoms- a unique group of algae with siliceous cell walls- their importance and how they have been/are being used in water quality monitoring and assessments. Dr. Juettner been a long time collaborator with the Department of Environmental Science and has contributed to diatom taxonomy and their ecology from Nepal.

Jimenez from the University of North Texas, USA, delivered a scintillating talk on biodiversity and its wonders, followed by an interaction session with the department’s undergraduate and master’s students. The main takeaway of the talk was the importance of “connectivity” in nature and human society for biodiversity conservation.
