🏆 A Moment of Pride for the Department of Mechanical Engineering, Kathmandu University 🇳🇵

Our second year students have achieved remarkable success at the Engineers Without Borders (EWB) UK Design Challenge, competing against 300+ participants from leading global institutions. Three teams represented the department with innovative sustainable solutions for the Ladywood/Port Loop area, UK:

Micro Briquetting – A facility focused on community-level energy solutions
Team: Sushant Neupane, Binit Prajapati, Nhoojah Shakya, Sugat Shakya, Sujal Lal Shrestha

Crushing the Cold – A heat pump powered by Port Loop's canal
Team: Prabhat Pandey, Soni KC, Arya Shrestha, Sudhanshu Raj Bhattarai

Food to Fuel – A Biogas Digester System
Team: Prithivi Raj Poudel, Aavash Aryal, Aayush Shrestha Malla, Tupendra Thapa Magar, Umesh Sitoula

Supervisors: Dr. Bijendra Shrestha, Dr. Sailesh Chitrakar, Er. Malesh Shah
Advisors: Dr. Pratisthit Lal Shrestha, Er. Sirapa Shrestha

The teams reached finals, Team 1 won the first prize, Team 2 won 2nd prize and public choice award, and they collectively received a prize of USD 1800.

We take immense pride in our students for representing the department and Nepal on a global platform with excellence. This is a testament and a global validation that Nepalese engineering education and our talent are at par with the best in the world.

The Metrology and Instrumentation Lab at the Department of Mechanical Engineering and the Department of Electrical and Electronics Engineering, in collaboration with Mantra Incorporation Pvt. Ltd. and VVDN Technologies (National Instruments), India, successfully completed the 3-day Workshop on LabVIEW & Data Acquisition Systems, held from May 4–6, 2026, at the Kathmandu University Central Campus.

Faculty members and researchers from the School of Engineering actively participated in the program, gaining valuable hands-on experience and strengthening their practical skills in instrumentation, automation, circuit simulation, and real-time data acquisition systems.

Department Activity Alert!!!

The “E-waste Processor Training on Local Social Partnership in Work-Based Training Modality” was successfully inaugurated today in Dhangadhi Sub-Metropolitan City, organized by Dhangadhi Sub-Metropolitan City in collaboration with CTEVT and FNCCI, funded by the British Council with technical support from Kathmandu University. The opening ceremony was graced by Lalitpur
Metropolitan City Mayor Chiribabu Maharjan in the presence of Dhangadhi Mayor Gopal Hamal, with opening remarks by Er. Paras Khadka and a keynote address by Prof. Dr. Bhola Thapa
highlighting the importance of e-waste management, the connection between art and engineering, and the need to bridge the gap between education and employment in Nepal. Mayor Chiribabu Maharjan also briefly shared his views on inter-city collaboration and expressed interest in conducting similar programs in Lalitpur. The program concluded with a vote of thanks by Deputy Mayor Kandakala Kumari Rana, marking a meaningful step toward promoting skill-based and work-oriented training initiatives.

Congratulations to our students for their first place victory in Design Hackathon organized by Society of Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering Students, IOE Pulchowk!

Congratulations to team coffee powder 24 Hour for securing 1st position in Design Hackathon sponsored by Brighter Tomorrow.
Hackathon was held as a pre- event on 17-18 Magh for 24 hours with theme sanitary pad dispensing machine.
The team had Dinup Balami, Shrijan Karki, Binti Bhandari and Nikesh Khadka.
They presented excellent design, CAD skills with a overall score of 90/100. Once again, Congratulations to the team.
