**Health in BRICS 2026 | New Delhi Declaration**
The BRICS New Delhi Declaration: Building for Resilience, Innovation, Cooperation and Sustainability, adopted on 12 September 2026, places strong emphasis on health as a foundation for resilient and sustainable development.
The Declaration highlights several important priorities under the BRICS Health agenda:
🔹 Ending Tuberculosis (TB): Strengthening research, investment, technology sharing, cross-learning and collective action to accelerate progress towards ending TB.
🔹 Global Health Security: Enhancing surveillance, early-warning systems, information sharing, preparedness and coordinated responses to infectious diseases, zoonotic threats, antimicrobial resistance and other public health emergencies.
🔹 Medical Products & Regulation: Strengthening cooperation among BRICS regulatory authorities to improve the availability, accessibility, quality, safety and efficacy of medical products.
🔹 Digital Health: Promoting people-centred digital healthcare systems and expanding access to healthcare, particularly in remote and underserved areas.
🔹 Healthy Lifestyles & NCDs: Launching the BRICS Mission for Healthy Lifestyle and the BRICS Roadmap for Joint Initiative on Healthy Lifestyle Promotion (2026–2029) to address obesity and non-communicable diseases.
🔹 Mental Health: Establishing a BRICS Training Hub Network and Network of Centres of Excellence, coordinated by NIMHANS, to promote research, policy dialogue, knowledge exchange and evidence-based mental health strategies.
🔹 Traditional, Complementary & Integrative Medicine (TCIM): Advancing evidence-informed research, collaboration, quality, safety, efficacy and appropriate regulatory frameworks.
🔹 Health Workforce: Expanding BRICS cooperation in capacity building, training and research, particularly to strengthen health systems in developing countries and Least Developed Countries (LDCs).
🔹 National Public Health Institutes: Strengthening cooperation in policy guidance, workforce development, disease surveillance, laboratory systems, preparedness, response and applied research.
🔹 Health Infrastructure & Innovation: Investing in resilient health infrastructure, local production, laboratory networks, digital technologies, Artificial Intelligence, skilled health workforces, research and development, and equitable access to healthcare, vaccines, therapeutics and diagnostics.
What stands out is the strong emphasis on collaboration, capacity building, health workforce development, digital transformation, public health preparedness and knowledge exchange.
The BRICS Health agenda demonstrates that health is increasingly viewed not only as a national responsibility, but also as an important pillar of global cooperation, resilience and sustainable development.
