The 45-day annual Summer Retreat (Yarney) has officially commenced today, 29th July 2026, at Nyanang Phelgyeling Monastery on the auspicious occasion of the full moon day of the 6th lunar month of the Tibetan Calendar.
The practice of Yarney originates from the ancient Indian tradition established by the Buddha in the Vinaya Sutra. During the Buddha’s time, this retreat was observed for three months during the summer monsoon season as a practical response to the rainy weather and as a way to avoid unintentionally harming small beings while traveling.
Following the Tibetan tradition, Nyanang Phelgyeling Monastery observes this sacred retreat for 45 days. During this period, the monks remain within the monastery grounds, engage in intensive spiritual practices, and uphold special vows and disciplines to deepen their practice of the Dharma.
May the immense merit accumulated through the sincere observance of this auspicious Yarney practice benefit all sentient beings, bring peace and harmony throughout the world, and lead all beings toward wisdom, compassion, and liberation. 🙏☸️
