Congratulations πŸŽ‰ on your successful participation in the Geotechnical Model Competition 2026 organized by the Nepal Geotechnical Society. Representing Universal Engineering and Science College, your innovative model and technical understanding reflect strong dedication to geotechnical engineering and infrastructure development. Wishing you continued success in your academic and professional journey.
participant:
Topic: Understanding Sinkholes: Causes, Risks and Preventive Measures
Team : Pratik Devkota , Ramesh Prasad Joshi , Sagar Dhital , Monika Regami

Description:
As part of our participation in the Nepal Geotechnical Model Competition organized by the Nepal Geotechnical Society (NGS), we presented a physical model addressing the problem of sinkhole formation in urban areas. The model represents real conditions commonly observed in cities like Kathmandu, where rapid urbanization, unplanned drainage systems, groundwater fluctuation, and underground utility leakage lead to subsurface soil erosion and sudden ground collapse. Through this model, we applied our academic geotechnical engineering knowledge to a real-life problem by demonstrating the mechanism of sinkhole development and recommending technical solutions for new urban planning as well as mitigation measures for already developed cities. The model emphasizes the importance of proper drainage management, ground improvement, and geotechnical investigation to reduce sinkhole risks in urban environments.
We extend our heartfelt congratulations and appreciation to each member for their hard work..❀️

Congratulations ✨:We are delighted to announce that Team Geovision has been awarded the First runner up at the prestigious Geo Expo, organized by the Nepal Geotechnical Society.

1st runner up
Team : Til Bahadur Karki , Nimika Shrestha , Saurab Gautam , Srijit Khadka
Mentor: Nischal Dahal (BCT 5th semister) who help to prepare complete embeded systems of warning system using sensors.

Topic: SMART GEOTECHNICAL INSTRUMENTATION AND EARLY WARNING SYSTEM FOR LANDSLIDE
Model description:
This model, developed by students of Universal Engineering & Science College, presents a Smart Geotechnical Installation and Early Warning System for Landslides suitable for Nepal’s mountainous and landslide-prone regions. The model shows a hill slope with stable and unstable zones, a road and river at the base, and rainfall-induced infiltration that can trigger slope failure.
The system uses a rain sensor to detect intense precipitation, a soil moisture sensor to monitor water infiltration, a vibration sensor to sense ground movement, and a GPS module to track displacement of the slope. All sensor data are processed in real time, and when threshold values are exceeded, alerts are transmitted through a GSM module to authorities and nearby communities.
This model highlights how sensor-based monitoring and early warning systems can significantly reduce landslide risk and improve disaster preparedness in Nepal, supporting the vision of the Nepal Geotechnical Society for safer and more resilient geotechnical infrastructure.
We extend our heartfelt congratulations and appreciation to each member for their hard work...❀️
