On April 3, 2026, the final round of ,"The Third Nepalese Chinese Language Teachers' Chinese language Teaching Skill Competition " was held in the conference hall of the Confucius Institute at Kathmandu University The competition, hosted by the Confucius Institute at Kathmandu University of Nepal, has been held for three consecutive sessions since 2024, and has witnessed the steady growth of Nepal's Chinese language teachers. Professor Dr. Li Shuangcheng, the Chinese Director of Confucius Institute at Kathmandu University; Professor Zhang Xingnian, Chinese Director of the Confucius Institute of Tribhuvan University; Ms. Wu Yuan, Responsible Teacher of the LRI Confucius Classroom; Teachers Yang Lei and Wang Xiaoguang of Bishwo BhasaCampus, all teaching staff and six local Chinese teachers who entered the final, attended the event.
In his speech, Professor Li Shucheng said that local Chinese teachers are the backbone of Chinese language education in Nepal and an important bridge for China-Nepal language and cultural exchange. The purpose of organizing this competition is to create a platform for local Chinese teachers to examine teaching skills and exchange teaching experience, promote learning and teaching, help teachers to improve their professional capabilities, and promote the local development of Chinese language education in Nepal. He stressed that the Confucius Institute will continue to support the growth of local Chinese language teachers, work with all parties to deepen China-Nepal educational and cultural exchanges, and make the Chinese language a solid bond that connects the national heart of the two countries.
At the final, the six participating teachers, with their novel teaching design, lively classroom atmosphere, and solid language skills, naturally integrated Chinese language teaching with Chinese culture, and fully implemented the student-centered teaching concept. Compared with previous sessions, the teaching ability of the participating teachers in this session has improved significantly, and the overall level has steadily improved, earning a huge appreciation from the judges and the live audience.
After strict judging by the judges, the 1st prize of this competition was won by Elisha Joshi from LRI Confucius Classroom, whereas Teachers Mahendra Dhakal and Sanchita KC of the Confucius Institute at the University of China won the second prize. Simillarly, Teacher Sabin Bajracharya and Shreejana Maharjan from Confucius Institute at Kathmandu University as well as Bidhya Dhakal from Confucius Institute at Tribhuwan University were awarded the third prize.
After the competition, Teacher Wu Yuan provided her keynotes of the event. She wholeheartedly praised the outstanding performances of all the participating teachers. Whether it was the transmission of linguistic knowledge, the integration of Chinese culture, or the diverse range of teaching methods and the use of AI-enhanced PPT presentations, all demonstrated the professionalism of local Chinese language teachers. She said that the annual local Chinese teacher teaching skills competition held by Confucius Institute at Kathmandu University has effectively promoted the exchange and growth of local teachers, and also demonstrated the good trend of the growing Chinese language teaching team in Nepal. She pointed out that localization is the development trend of Chinese language education in Nepal and looked forward to all parties working together in the future to promote deeper and more tangible cultural exchanges between China and Nepal.

HSK Certificate Distribution and Chinese Cultural Program Successfully Held at Khwopa College, Bhaktapur
Bhaktapur — April 2, 2026 — The HSK Certificate Distribution and Chinese Cultural Program was successfully organized at Khwopa College, Bhaktapur, recognizing students’ and teachers’ achievements in Chinese language and promoting Nepal–China educational and cultural exchange. The program brought together distinguished guests, representatives from the Confucius Institute at Kathmandu University, Bhaktapur Municipality officials, school leaders, teachers, and students, creating a meaningful platform for academic recognition and cultural cooperation.
The event was attended by Deputy Mayor of Bhaktapur Municipality Ms. Rajani Joshi; Prof. Dr. Li Shuangcheng, Director of the Confucius Institute at Kathmandu University; Mr. Prakash Kumar Shrestha, Principal of Khwopa College; Mr. Laxmi Prasad Karmacharya, Principal of Khwopa Secondary School; Chinese language teacher Mr. Pranaya Chitrakar; and Chinese Bridge winner Mr. Sushant Lohala, along with Chinese and Nepali teachers and students.
Speech Session
Prof. Dr. Li Shuangcheng expressed his great pleasure and honor at participating in the program. He highlighted that the Confucius Institute at Kathmandu University, established in 2007 in cooperation with Hebei University of Economics and Business, has trained more than fifty thousand Nepali Chinese language learners over the past eighteen years. He praised Khwopa Higher Secondary School and Khwopa College for their commitment to Chinese language education and emphasized the critical role of Mr. Pranaya Chitrakar, whose dedication has produced outstanding students, scholarship winners, and Chinese Bridge competition participants. He also acknowledged Sushant Lohala’s achievement in representing Nepal in China.
Mr. Pranaya Chitrakar delivered an inspiring speech reflecting on his journey from student to teacher at Khwopa. He highlighted the key role of mentorship, continuous effort, and the close bond between teachers and students in achieving success. He reviewed the program’s achievements, including students winning competitions, receiving scholarships, teaching Chinese in multiple schools across Bhaktapur, Kathmandu, and Patan, and Khwopa’s establishment as the first HSK examination center in Bhaktapur.
Mr. Laxmi Prasad Karmacharya warmly welcomed all participants and expressed pride in the progress of Chinese language education at Khwopa. He acknowledged the success of students and teachers in HSK exams and cultural activities under the guidance of Mr. Pranaya Chitrakar and highlighted the importance of Chinese language in promoting Nepal–China friendship.
Chinese Bridge winner Mr. Sushant Lohala shared his gratitude toward Mr. Pranaya Chitrakar and Khwopa Secondary School, stating that he would not have achieved success without their guidance. He reflected on the invaluable experience of traveling to China after winning first prize in the Chinese Bridge Competition and representing Nepal internationally.
Cultural Performance and Certificate Distribution Session
The cultural performance session featured a vibrant mix of Nepali and Chinese traditions. Six different Chinese cultural skills were demonstrated through six distinct performances, making the event highly enriching. Students from Khwopa Secondary School and Khwopa College presented Chinese cultural music fusion, Chinese dance, paper cutting, calligraphy, tea culture demonstration, and Chinese song, showcasing their talent and deep understanding of Chinese culture, all nurtured under the mentorship of Mr. Pranaya Chitrakar.
The performances included a musical fusion of Mo Li Hua, Tarani Janani, and Resham Firiri; Chinese dance Moment by Khusi Niraula; paper-cutting demonstration Panda by Antara Shilpakar; Chinese calligraphy by Kafee Limbu; tea culture presentation by Acsha Lama and Sadhana Shrestha; and a Chinese song The Girl Across Looks Over by Sushant Lohala.
The HSK certificate distribution ceremony was a major highlight, where more than 30 students and teachers of Khwopa Secondary School and Khwopa College were awarded HSK Level 1, Level 2, Level 3, and Level 4 certificates, highlighting the inclusion of teachers who are also participating in Chinese language classes. Khusi Niraula was recognized for achieving a perfect score in HSK Level 2, Binod Shakharmi and Arjun Konda for outstanding marks in HSK Level 1, and Antara Shilpakar for outstanding marks in HSK Level 4. Binod Shakharmi, who was once a teacher of Pranaya Chitrakar and is now his student, represents a unique example of lifelong learning and academic continuity at Khwopa.
Certificates were also awarded to winners of the “Drawing for Peace” International Children’s Art Exhibition Online Collection Activity, with Antara Shilpakar securing first prize and Kafee Limbu second prize, further highlighting the artistic and cultural excellence of Khwopa students.
Closing Remarks
Deputy Mayor Rajani Joshi expressed her delight at the remarkable achievements of students and teachers in Chinese language and cultural activities. She praised their HSK results and cultural performances and encouraged students to continue making Bhaktapur proud by contributing to Nepal–China friendship.
She shared her experience visiting Xi Zang last year and expressed her happiness that Bhaktapur Municipality had renewed its sister-city relationship with Shan Nan Province. She hoped that similar cooperative relations would be established with more Chinese cities in the future. She also welcomed the planned Chinese Language Education and Cultural Center at Khwopa College, supported by the Confucius Institute at Kathmandu University and Hebei University of Economics and Business. She further highlighted Khwopa’s establishment of the first HSK examination center in Bhaktapur, allowing students and nearby residents to take exams in their hometown.
The program concluded with a group photo session, marking a successful celebration of students’ and teachers’ achievements. The event highlighted the tireless efforts, dedication, and leadership of Mr. Pranaya Chitrakar, whose guidance has been central to the success of the Chinese language program at Khwopa and the growing opportunities for students, teachers, and the Bhaktapur community.

Hilltown Secondary School Celebrates Chinese New Year with Art and Culture!

On February 18 and 23, 2026, Hilltown Secondary School successfully organized a painting competition and a knot-making workshop to celebrate the Chinese New Year, helping students explore the rich cultural heritage and customs of this traditional festival.

On February 18, students from grades four to eight showcased their creativity in a painting competition themed “Year of the Horse”, bringing Chinese culture to life in a joyful and artistic environment.

On February 23, sixth-grade students participated in a knot-making workshop led by the teachers, gaining hands-on experience with traditional Chinese crafts.

Chinese New Year Cultural Experience at Regent Residential School

On February 20, 2026, Regent Residential School( One of the teaching point of Confucius Institute at Kathmandu University) organized a Chinese culture experience activity for Grade 1 and Grade 2 students, with around 80 students participating under the guidance of local teacher Nabin.

Grade 1 students enjoyed a Chinese New Year–themed coloring activity, featuring lanterns, lion dances, and fireworks, while Grade 2 students took part in a panda paper-cutting activity, learning basic techniques of this traditional Chinese folk art.

Through hands-on artistic practice and cultural introduction, students experienced the joy of the Spring Festival and gained a deeper understanding of Chinese culture. The lively and engaging activity successfully combined language learning with cultural experience, further promoting cultural exchange between China and Nepal.
