Confucius Institute at Kathmandu University Successfully Holds the 2026 Mid-Year Teacher Training and Chinese Language Teaching Seminar

From July 31 to August 2, 2026, the Confucius Institute at Kathmandu University (CIKU) successfully organized the 2026 Mid-Year Teacher Training and Chinese Language Teaching Seminar, bringing together 24 Chinese and Nepali teachers and staff members.

Under the theme “Teaching Innovation in the Digital Era: Integrating the New HSK 3.0 Standards with Technology-Enhanced Chinese Language Teaching,” the three-day seminar focused on helping teachers adapt to the newly implemented HSK 3.0 proficiency standards. Participants explored innovative teaching strategies, curriculum design, digital learning tools, artificial intelligence (AI)-assisted teaching, and localized approaches to Chinese language education in Nepal.

The seminar opened on July 31 with welcoming remarks by Prof. Li Shuangcheng, Chinese Director of CIKU, followed by an introduction to the training objectives by Ms. Zhang Hongwei. Teachers from different teaching sites shared their classroom experiences and discussed practical challenges in implementing the new HSK standards. Participants were then divided into groups according to HSK levels to begin collaborative lesson planning and textbook analysis.

On August 1, Dr. Rajiv Ranjit introduced the instructional design model, while Ms. Wang Liyan led a session on digital teaching practices. Mr. Sabin Bajracharya conducted a hands-on workshop demonstrating how AI tools can be used to efficiently develop teaching materials and personalize learning experiences. Throughout the day, participants worked in teams to design localized lesson plans, teaching activities, and assessment methods.

The seminar concluded on August 2 with group presentations showcasing their HSK teaching modules and supporting instructional resources. In his closing remarks, Prof. Li Shuangcheng highly praised the participants’ dedication and achievements throughout the training.

This seminar marked another important step by the Confucius Institute at Kathmandu University in preparing teachers for the transition to HSK 3.0. By combining the latest proficiency standards with digital technologies and AI-assisted teaching, CIKU continues to strengthen the professional development of Chinese language teachers and enhance the quality of Chinese language education in Nepal, further promoting educational cooperation and people-to-people exchanges between China and Nepal.

Closing Ceremony of the Hebei–Nepal Hand-in-Hand Silk Road Youth Study Tour Program Successfully Held at the Confucius Institute at Kathmandu University

On 31st July 2026, the closing ceremony of the Hebei–Nepal Hand-in-Hand Silk Road Youth Study Tour Program was successfully held at the Confucius Institute at Kathmandu University (CIKU). The 14-day cultural exchange program was organized by Kathmandu University, with outstanding students from Hebei University of Economics and Business (HUEB) participating in an immersive study tour across Nepal.

The ceremony was attended by Prof. Li Shuangcheng, Chinese Director of the Confucius Institute at Kathmandu University, Prof. Uddhav Pyakhurel Mr. Qiu Guangmin, Dr. Rajiv Ranjit, Dr. Sudhir Shakya, Dean of the Kathmandu University School of Arts, and more than 30 faculty members and participants.

On behalf of the delegation, student representative Chen Yang expressed sincere gratitude to Kathmandu University, the Confucius Institute, the instructors, and all staff for their warm hospitality and dedicated support throughout the program. During the two-week study tour, students explored Nepal’s breathtaking natural landscapes, diverse ethnic traditions, religious heritage, education system, and local communities through immersive learning and field visits. At the same time, they introduced contemporary Chinese youth culture and the unique cultural heritage of Hebei Province to their Nepali friends, fostering meaningful people-to-people exchanges and lasting friendships.

The participants also presented their research findings based on field visits and observations, covering topics such as Nepal’s education system, traditional customs, society, culture, and economic development. Their well-structured presentations and insightful analyses were highly praised by both Chinese and Nepali faculty members.

In his remarks, Prof. Li Shuangcheng commended the students for their enthusiasm, dedication, and outstanding research achievements. He encouraged them to continue sharing Nepal’s rich culture after returning to China, tell the stories of China–Nepal friendship, and contribute to international Chinese language education and cultural exchange between the two countries.

Prof. Uddhav Pyakhurel congratulated the students on successfully completing the program and highlighted the growing partnership between Kathmandu University and Hebei University of Economics and Business. He emphasized that regular exchanges between young people play an essential role in promoting mutual understanding, strengthening cultural ties, and deepening the long-term friendship between Nepal and China.

Following the speeches, Prof. Uddhav Pyakhurel presented certificates of participation to all students. The Hebei–Nepal Hand-in-Hand Silk Road Youth Study Tour Program provided a valuable platform for academic exchange, cultural dialogue, and youth engagement, further strengthening educational cooperation and people-to-people friendship between Nepal and China.

Nepal–China “Silk Road Youth” Summer Camp Opened at the Confucius Institute at Kathmandu University

The opening ceremony of the 2026 Nepal–China “Silk Road Youth” Summer Camp was held at the Confucius Institute at Kathmandu University (CIKU), officially launching a 14-day academic and cultural exchange program for 14 students from Hebei University of Economics and Business.

The summer camp was organized by Kathmandu University to promote educational cooperation and people-to-people exchanges between Nepal and China.

The ceremony was attended by Prof. Li Shuangcheng, Chinese Director of CIKU, Prof.Udhav Pyakhurel, Dean of the School of Fine Arts at Kathmandu University, along with Chinese and local faculty members.

In his welcome address, Prof. Li encouraged participants to immerse themselves in Nepal’s history and culture, broaden their international perspectives, and contribute to strengthening Nepal–China friendship. Prof. Udhav Pyakhurel highlighted the long-standing ties between the two countries and expressed his hope that the summer camp would further deepen educational and cultural cooperation.

The event also included an orientation session on Nepal’s history, customs, local laws, and safety guidelines, helping students prepare for their stay.

During the two-week program, the participants were scheduled to take part in academic exchanges, cultural activities, and visits to historical and cultural sites across Nepal, further strengthening educational cooperation and people-to-people ties between Nepal and China.

English Translation of Chinese Children’s Classic 《Song of the Little Bird 》written by Dr. Liu Dihong and translated by Mr. Pranaya Chitrakar Launched in Bhaktapur

The English translation of the Chinese children’s story collection ：《Song of the Little Bird 》was officially launched at the hall of Modern School/College, Bhaktapur with the presence of distinguished guests from the education, cultural, diplomatic and literary sectors.

The event was organized by the Confucius Institute at Kathmandu University (CIKU) and co-organized by Modern School/College. More than 100 participants attended the ceremony, including Prof. Dr. Li Shuangcheng, Director of the Confucius Institute at Kathmandu University; Prof. Zhang Xingnian, Chinese Director of the Confucius Institute at Tribhuvan University; Mr. Liu Zhanping, Director of the China Cultural Centre in Nepal; Miss Wu yuan Reaponsible person of the LRI Confucius Classroom; the Manager of China Southern Airlines Kathmandu Branch; principals and teachers from various educational institutions; as well as fourteen students from Hebei University of Economics and Business who are currently in Nepal for a two-week summer camp.

Welcoming the guests, Mr. Anil Kaspal, Principal of Modern School/College, described the book launch as more than the release of a new publication, calling it “a celebration of friendship, culture, language and literature.” He praised author Liu Dihong and translator Pranaya Chitrakar for helping bring Chinese children’s literature to a wider international readership.

Speaking as the chief guest, Mr. Surendra Raj Gosai, Member of the Bagmati Provincial Assembly and Principal of Bal Vikash English Secondary School, emphasized that translation serves as a vital bridge connecting the people of different countries. He expressed appreciation to author Liu Dihong for creating literature that promotes friendship and cultural understanding, and thanked translator Pranaya Chitrakar for introducing the work to English-speaking readers. He also acknowledged Pranaya Chitrakar’s earlier contribution in co-translating the Chinese edition of Letters from Jail (《狱中信札》) together with Ms. Zhang Hongwei, Chinese language teacher at the Confucius Institute at Kathmandu University, noting that such translation projects further strengthen literary and cultural ties between Nepal and China.

Delivering his remarks, translator Pranaya Chitrakar shared that translating Song of the Little Bird had been both a professional responsibility and a deeply meaningful personal journey. He stated that translation is far more than changing words from one language to another—it is about sharing stories, emotions, culture and values while building bridges between people. He explained that throughout the translation process he felt immersed in every story, describing how each character was vividly portrayed and how the collection introduces readers to Chinese culture and mythology through engaging tales while conveying valuable life lessons.

During the closing ceremony, Prof. Dr. Li Shuangcheng, Director of the Confucius Institute at Kathmandu University, highly appreciated Mr. Pranaya Chitrakar’s dedication to the translation project. He remarked that despite his regular teaching responsibilities, Mr. Pranaya Chitrakar devoted considerable time and effort to producing a fluent and engaging English translation. He further stated that the publication would serve as a lively cultural bridge between China and Nepal, enabling more young readers to experience authentic Chinese children’s literature while strengthening educational and cultural exchanges between the two countries.

The ceremony also featured the official unveiling of the book, cultural performances by students of Modern School/College, speeches by distinguished guests, and concluded with a group photograph and luncheon for invited guests.
