Our MBA Spring 2025 students are back from the two-week residential Rural Enterprise Service (RES) Program, and presented what they learned in the field!

Working with FNCCI and the Woman Agriculture Group, Manang, the six teams tackled real challenges, from branding Manang’s produce and strengthening coffee in Gulmi and Sindhupalchowk to Dhaka weaving in Palpa and Terhathum, homestay tourism in Baglung and digital tools in Sindhupalchowk.

Gender equality in higher education is driven by students as well as policy.

KUSOM joined MAGENDA partners from Nepal, Bangladesh, Greece and Belgium at the Transnational Project Meeting, 6–7 October 2026, at Bangladesh Agricultural University (BAU), Mymensingh.

Six universities in Nepal and Bangladesh have approved and are implementing Gender Equality Plans (GEPs), supported by European partners through training and technical expertise.

Partners reviewed progress and planned the next steps across all work packages.

Strengthening Tourism Crisis Management in Gandaki Province

Kathmandu University School of Management (KUSOM) and PATA Nepal Chapter convened the Gandaki Provincial Inception Meeting for the project “Developing Tourism Crisis Management Handbook for Nepalese Tourism Stakeholders” in Pokhara on 9 October 2026. We were honored by the presence and valuable insights of Hon. Phanindra Devkota, Minister for Energy, Water Resources and Water Supply, Gandaki Province; Mr. Roshan Jnawali, Secretary, Ministry of Industry and Tourism, Gandaki Province; and Mr. Hari Bhujel, President, Pokhara Tourism Council.

The meeting brought together representatives from various organizations who have been directly and indirectly involved in tourism crisis management in the region including provincial government representatives, tourism associations, security agencies, tourism businesses, and development partners to share experiences, identify priorities, and explore ways to strengthen tourism crisis preparedness, response, and recovery in Gandaki Province. During the moderated discussion, participants highlighted the importance of a nationally coordinated tourism crisis management framework and effective crisis communication to strengthen collaboration among the three tiers of government and tourism industry actors.

Supported by the Swiss Agency for Development and Cooperation (SDC), this initiative aims to translate stakeholder experiences and institutional knowledge into a practical handbook that strengthens crisis management capacities across Nepal’s tourism ecosystem.

Kathmandu University School of Management (KU SOM) and Kathmandu University School of Education (KU SOED), through the KU SOM Policy Lab, organized a Policy Dialogue on “Evidence-Based Policy Formulation and Implementation” on October 7, 2026. The program featured a keynote address by Dr. Caroline Brassard of the Lee Kuan Yew School of Public Policy, National University of Singapore, who highlighted the importance of evidence in strengthening policy formulation and promoting effective policy implementation in Nepal.

The event brought together faculty members from different universities, PhD scholars, public policy students, representatives from UNDP and International Non-Governmental Organizations (INGOs), former bureaucrats, and independent policy experts, providing a diverse platform for meaningful discussion and the exchange of perspectives on evidence-based policymaking.

Kathmandu University School of Management Student Welfare Council (KUSOM SWC) successfully concluded its 2025/26 tenure with a closing program graced by Dean Dr. Arjun K. Shrestha, Associate Dean Dr. Roshee Lamichhane, and Student Welfare Coordinator Mr. Binayak Chhetri.

The School extends its heartfelt congratulations to SWC President Mr. Nirdesh Subedi and Vice President Ms. Aayushma Bhandari on the successful completion of their tenure, recognizing their leadership, dedication, and contributions throughout the year. Kathmandu University School of Management (KUSOM) is pleased to share that Dr. Roshee Lamichhane, Associate Professor and Associate Dean, KUSOM, served as the Keynote Speaker and Technical Session Chair at the International Seminar on “Creating Resilient Business Ecosystems in the Current Geo-Political Environment,” organized by the Department of Commerce, Gauhati University, Assam, India, and sponsored by NABARD, on 6–7 October 2026.

In her keynote address, Dr. Lamichhane reflected on the evolving geopolitical and economic landscape and the need for businesses and institutions to develop greater resilience, adaptability and collaborative capabilities in navigating uncertainty.

The seminar brought together academics, researchers, scholars and practitioners for meaningful dialogue on building resilient business ecosystems in the context of contemporary global and regional challenges.

KUSOM Entrepreneurship Club successfully hosted an interactive session, “Entrepreneurship: Building a Non-Profit for a Career,” featuring Mr. Srini Madala, Founder & CEO of Aquila Systems AI and Chairman of SoftSol Group.

The session explored bootstrapping, sustainable organizations, revenue generation, and non-profit entrepreneurship, followed by an engaging Q&A with participants.
