Kathmandu Metropolitan City and the Department of Languages and Mass Communication at Kathmandu University School of Arts on Friday formalized a partnership for the 2026 Kathmandu Film Festival, linking the city's showcase of cinema with film studies. Ms. Kumari Rai, head of the city's Department of Heritage and Tourism, and Mr. Ngima Gelu Lama of the Department of Languages and Mass Communication exchanged the memorandum of understanding on behalf of their institutions. The document is signed by Mr. Mahesh Kafle, head of the metropolis's administration department, and by Prof. Dr. Nirmala Mani Adhikary, head of the Department of languages and Mass Communication at KUSOA.

German experts Mr. Stephan Krause (cinematographer), Mr. Thomas Bastian (sound designer), and Ms. Patricia Rommel (editor) wrapped up an intensive three-week workshop today at the Department of Languages and Mass Communication , Kathmandu University. Prof. Dr. Nirmala Mani Adhikary, Head of the Department, thanked the mentors for their time and effort.

We are grateful to SES for making this opportunity possible, and to our mentors for their dedication and hard work.

BMS Final Year Students Successfully Defend Final Research Reports

Bachelor in Media Studies (BMS) final year students successfully defended their Final Research Report (broadly described as a thesis or dissertation) at the Department, in front of faculty members, external examiners and their colleagues.

The students presented their reports and received feedback from the external examiners as well as the faculty. After the feedback, the students will rework their projects and submit the final version to the department.

The presentations of the remaining students will continue tomorrow, Friday, 9th October 2026.

The department congratulates all the students who successfully defended their presentations.

Today, Bachelor in Media Studies students studying Documentary Film Appreciation had the opportunity to attend a guest lecture by Writer/Director Kesang Tseten, the filmmaker behind the documentaries Who Will Be a Gurkha, We Corner People, Trembling Mountain among others. Thank you, Kesang, for generously sharing your time and insights with our students.
