Kathmandu, Nepal — Professor AKM Mazharul Islam, an internationally recognized anthropologist from Bangladesh and recipient of the prestigious Pelto International Award of the Society for Applied Anthropology (SfAA), recently visited Nepal to engage in a series of academic and cultural exchanges.

As a leading scholar of applied anthropology and medical anthropology, Professor Islam has dedicated his career to bridging academic research with real-world social issues. During his visit to Nepal, he delivered guest lectures, met with scholars and students from Tribhuvan University and Kathmandu University, and participated in dialogues on education, youth empowerment, and South Asian solidarity.

Speaking in Kathmandu, Professor Islam emphasized: “Anthropology in South Asia is not only about studying cultures, but also about transforming lives. Bangladesh and Nepal can learn from each other’s histories, struggles, and hopes for a just and equal future.”

His visit comes at a time when South Asian youth movements and educational reforms are reshaping national futures. By fostering academic collaboration, Professor Islam aims to strengthen the intellectual and cultural bridges between Bangladesh and Nepal.

The campaign around his visit underscores a vision of knowledge-sharing across borders, reminding us that South Asia’s challenges — from education to public health — demand shared wisdom and solidarity.
