After 35 years in the automotive industry, Toi Drylie is now helping shape the next generation of learners through secondary education.

As one of the NZTC students accepted into the Go Rural: Isolated Placements Fund, Toi’s journey reflects the power of expanding opportunities: professionally, personally, and within regional communities across Aotearoa.

World Environment Day is coming up on 5 June 🌿

We’ve put together a few simple activity ideas inspired by nature, te reo Māori, and environmental learning for early childhood settings 🌏

From native birds and trees to weather words and insect exploration, these experiences can help encourage curiosity, connection, and care for the environment from an early age.

Save this post for future classroom inspiration. 💜

Sharing again this special moment from the 2025 ECC Conference Gala Dinner & ECC Awards as we’re proud to announce that NZTC will be sponsoring the event for the second consecutive year.💜

Taking place in Wellington on Friday 31 July as part of the ECC Conference 2026, the Gala Dinner & ECC Awards is a special opportunity to celebrate the people, passion, and impact that continue to shape the future of early childhood education across Aotearoa, something we’re honoured to support as part of our ongoing commitment to the ECE sector.

We’re looking forward to connecting with the ECE community again this year and celebrating alongside so many inspiring educators and leaders.✨

Stay tuned! We’ll be sharing more about NZTC’s presence at the conference very soon!

Save for your next activity! ✅

Teaching te tinana (the body) through te reo Māori can be fun, active, and meaningful. Here are a few simple ideas to try with your tamariki:

- Action songs: point and name body parts while singing
- Movement games: “touch your…” using te reo Māori commands
- Mirror play: tamariki identify and name their own features
- Creative play: drawing or labelling the body together

Small moments like these help build language, confidence, and connection 💜

What’s your go-to activity when teaching body parts? Share below!

Today we celebrate the importance of the people who help shape who we are. 💜

Whānau are the ones who nurture us with love, care and respect, giving us the confidence to grow, dream big and find our place in the world. And no matter how far we go, family reminds us that we will always have somewhere to return to. ✨

One of our April Giveaway winners is already putting her classroom kit to good use! 😊

Carissa shared this beautiful moment of learning and play with one of the tamariki at her centre, and we just had to share the cuteness with our community 💜

Carissa is currently studying the Master of Teaching and Learning in Early Childhood Education and shared how meaningful this journey has been for her: “Mastering the field of Early Childhood Education takes heart, purpose, and passion. In Aotearoa, tamariki are treasured taonga, and kaiako are intentional co-constructors of learning, modeling, scaffolding, and nurturing growth through the unique principles of Te Whāriki and culturally responsive practice. Hailing from Cebu, Philippines to Aotearoa New Zealand, this journey is built on dedication, lifelong learning, and a deep commitment to empowering young minds.”

Thank you for sharing this special moment with us, Carissa ✨

Who else is already enjoying the giveaway kit? Stay tuned for more giveaways! 🎁

Care looks different for everyone. ✨

For some, it’s becoming a mother.
For others, it’s honouring the legacy of one.
And for many, it’s choosing a path where caring becomes a career.

This Mother’s Day, we celebrate the incredible wāhine who carry care through everything they do, for their tamariki, their whānau, and their communities. 💜

At NZTC, we see how these stories shape futures. How lived experiences become purpose, and how care grows into something that impacts lives, families, and communities.

To all the mothers, mother figures, and future educators: thank you for the care you give, every single day. 💐
