Today we welcomed the Malaga Carvings that were carved by students almost 20 years ago.

For over a decade they witnessed tens of thousands of students passing through the HSB quad along Symonds Street. Then due to the revamp of this area the carvings needed to be moved and they have come down to the Fale Pasifika complex to reside for many many more decades.

Thank you to those who took played their part in their 'Malaga' to Pacific Studies.

Pro Vice-Chancellor (Pacific)

The Vice Chancellor of The University of Auckland has just announced that the position of Director of Pacific Strategy and Engagement, held by Toeolesulusulu Associate Professor Damon Salesa, will from 5 November become 'Pro Vice-Chancellor (Pacific)'. In this position, Toeolesulusulu will build on the excellent leadership that he has provided to our Pacific staff and students, and in developing our strategy for engagement with our many Pacific communities, both in New Zealand and throughout the region. The Pro Vice-Chancellor (Pacific) will be based principally in the Vice-Chancellor's office, but will also have responsibility for management of the Fale Pasifika.

14 years ago, one of the most iconic complexes in the world was built at The University of Auckland. The Fale Pasifika became the spiritual home and landmark for Pacific Peoples not only studying at New Zealand's leading institution, but also for Pasifika communities in Aotearoa New Zealand.

Housed at the Fale Pasifika was the Centre for Pacific Studies (CPS) which is now joined with Māori Studies under one school - Te Wanaga o Waipapa.

These are just some of the highlights of the opening of this magnificent complex back in 2004. What an amazing achievement, and we remember and honour those who fought hard and were involved in this project.
