The Department fully caters for students with physics on the brain. Our tightly focused courses span the breadth of physics and astronomy. We also offer courses tailored to allied disciplines such as biomedicine, engineering, geology, climate science, energy and environmental sustainability, optics, and electronics. And for those just passing through, there’s an introductory course that delves int

o key ideas in physics without a dense knit of mathematical calculation. Today’s job market has a high absorbency for physics grads. ‘Please knock and enter’ signs are everywhere in telecommunications, marketing, computing, oceanography, air quality management, medical physics, meteorology, insurance, finance, oceanography, resource management, research, and teaching. The University of Auckland ranks 82nd worldwide (out of 7,000) in the latest QS ratings. That’s the highest in New Zealand. With more than 7,000 students, the Faculty of Science is the largest.
