A proud night for our Whitecliffe design graduates at the 2026 Best Design Awards. 🏆

A special congratulations to Levi Dudson Poole , who received Gold 🥇 for Westerly, and Rachel Windibank , who received Silver 🥈 for The Shell Collector’s Belt Kit in the Student Graphics category.

We’re also proud of fellow finalists Olivia Blackwell , Zoya Nesterovitch , Claudia Yin , Coralie Hutchinson, Kayla McHugh and Jess Robinson.

Congratulations to all of our finalists, and a big thank you to the lecturers who supported their work along the way. 👏

A closer look at type, typography and the design industry 👀

Last week, our Bachelor of Design + Digital Media students welcomed Alistair McCready, founder of Monolith, into the studio.

Alistair gave students an in-depth look at typography, a deeper appreciation of typefaces and shared insights from his own experience working in the design industry.

It’s always great to bring industry practitioners into the studio so students can ask questions, hear real-world perspectives and see where their own creative practice could take them.

Thanks to Alistair for spending time with our students, and to lecturer Rebecca Steedman for organising the visit.

As part of the Bachelor of Fine Arts, students experience what it takes to bring an exhibition to life.

For the Soft Archives: What Remains, What Returns Exhibition, the group worked together across the full process from planning the space and installing their work to presenting the finished exhibition to an audience.

It gave them experience in the practical side of exhibiting, collaborating as artists and working within a professional gallery setting.

Featuring work by , , , Shiloh Atlantis, Seth Apelu, .arts and Mia van Jaarsveld.

Well done to the whole group on bringing the exhibition together. 👏

Curated by Whitecliffe Bachelor of Fine Arts (Honours) student Robyn Stewart, Whiria te Tangata brings together five artists with diverse practices, exploring heritage, identity and their connections to place in Aotearoa.

The exhibition brings together Whitecliffe artists Kaelyn Bendall , Darian Serrano and Robyn Stewart , alongside other artists Maraky Vowells .araky and Santiago Sanchez .

Across fashion, sculpture, installation, painting, moving image and other mediums, each artist brings their own cultural experiences and perspectives to the exhibition.

Upskilling doesn’t have to mean staying in the same field.

After working in finance and accounting, Desi decided to explore something different through Whitecliffe’s Certificate in IT.

For her, studying IT is a chance to build practical new skills, broaden her knowledge, and add something new to her current experience.

Her advice: whatever field you come from, don’t be afraid to keep learning.

A special win to celebrate 🎉 Congratulations to Tatarata Noo Katu, winner of Resene Colour of Fashion 2026!

Known as Tuts, our Diploma in Fashion student drew inspiration from family, island life and making things by hand.

His win also closes a 13-year chapter for Whitecliffe and Resene. Thank you to Resene for 13 years of support, to every student who brought their creativity to the project, and to the lecturers who helped bring their designs to life.

As we wrap up our Te Wiki o te Reo Māori video series, Matt Dowman, our Programme Lead for Fine Arts, shares a kupu that resonates with him: kaitiakitanga.

For Matt, kaitiakitanga is about recognising that we have a responsibility to care for and protect the world around us. But it’s more than environmental protection. It’s also about relationships, responsibility and connection.

Te Wiki o te Reo Māori is one week of celebration, but our appreciation for the language continues throughout the year.
