We are deeply saddened to learn one of our performers and supporters, an all time New Zealand Jazz great, has passed.😢
We were privileged to have Phil play at our Jazz'n'Joe events in 2015 no less than 5x. His support was pivotal I feel in all we achieved & I wish to acknowledge his contributions.😢🙏 Our thoughts are with Julie, family & friends with sincere condolences.💐

PHIL BROADHURST MNZM

It is with great sadness that we report Phil, aged 70, passed away on 24 April surrounded by his family. Our condolences to his wife Julie Mason and his three sons, Cameron, Nick and Tim.

Phil was one of New Zealand's leading jazz musicians and regularly performed at our club with Julie and other leading jazz musicians. The photo below was taken on 25 March, being Phil's final performance at our club.

As well as being a top jazz pianist, Phil was also a composer, broadcaster, recording artist, and he served as Head of Jazz Studies at the Albany campus of Massey University. He was awarded a well deserved MNZM (New Zealand Order of Merit) for his services to jazz music in New Zealand.

A memorial service will be held when conditions allow.

Shared recently on the Waiheke Jazz Festival FB page I think it's poignant for us also for other reasons & hey.. it's fun :D.

Hello to our dear friends Jazz'n'Joe doesn't look like it will be happening again this year for various reason some personal & others situational.
We will be back, be assured, to bring you our own spin on Jazz. Until then we'd like to recommend the Auckland Jazz Club to you which is usually Tuesday nights 7pm at the Pt Chevalier RSA.
Until we've news of significance we wish you all the very best.

Hello all our wonderful friends. We hope the year has gone well for you all.

Yes there was no Jazz'n'Joe this year but we've still been busy as Ron had a tour, we've been working on a new site for J'n'J & I've also been working on this for our community
https://www.facebook.com/avondaleartpark/

We will keep you appraised of the situation as things change so don't worry.
Ron & I wish you all the very best for the holiday season & hope 2018 will even be more awesome for you.

I know we've been quite some time but we have been busy securing a new venue for Jazz'n'Joe and we want to get it right for you, our lovely audience, & all our great musicians.
We've decided to make some minor changes to how Jazz'n'Joe happens (all good) & we'll let you know once we have the dates settled what these will be.
We believe you'll be surprised & happy so until I post again thank you for your patience & support.

Hi, as some of you may already know, the relationship we have with the Avondale Community Society in the persons of Bernice Thompson, who controls St Ninians Church Hall on behalf of the City of Auckland, has been soured as a result of them not honoring our reserved booking made in early January.
In trying to resolve this issue it became apparent that they have some other agenda as they became increasingly obstructive & belligerent in my attempts to resolve the issue.
The result is we are now looking for a new home, this year, for Jazz'n'Joe as we & our musicians are still very committed to bringing you the very best Jazz we can.
We are looking for somewhere local that is available for 4-10 weeks on either Friday or Saturday evenings. If you or someone you know has access to a nice venue, not too much larger to St Ninians, please let us know by PM or emailing us at [email protected].
Ron & I look forward to seeing you all again so in the meantime we hope you all the best.

We open the doors tonight at 6:45pm & the show will start at 7pm so please come beforehand to be seated at the tables.
The two hours will be divided into three sets so there will be time to stretch your legs in between when the musicians take their breaks.
