We’re looking forward to the Balcony to Bay Event featuring out Bee Sanctuary THIS THURSDAY 🌿🪴
Guided by an expert ecologist, woven with historical story-telling, and organised as a gentle urban walk, Balcony to Bay offers insight into this amazing place where we live and work and what each of us can do to make our city landscape and community flourish.
Whether you would like to be part of larger native restoration efforts, growing delicious food, composting, nurturing your apartment house plants, or just championing the efforts of others, we can all enjoy the benefits of connecting with nature and the friendships that grow right alongside.
Beginning at St Andrew’s Hall (behind the big beautiful church on the corner of Alten Road and Symonds St), we will gently make our way through the grounds of Old Government House, down through the lush vegetation of the Law School to the University of Auckland Bee Sanctuary in Eden Crescent, through to Emily Reserve and completing at Aaiotanga Community Space, 22 Emily Place
Each part of our journey will highlight for us the plants, insects, birdlife and landscape features of our city, as well as the surprising opportunities there are to transform unexpected spaces in-between, for life and well being in the city.
What to bring with you:
• Raincoat / umbrella in case of wet weather
• Drink bottle
Note: This route is not easy for wheelchair or walker use because of steep downhill inclines along the way. The path can support use of electric mobility scooters with alternative pathways around the sections that have stairs.
This is a free event with snacks provided, but please register through the Humanitix link in our bio 🍓
