AUT works alongside its students to elevate their experiences of Pacific culture, practices and language through visual storytelling, focusing on taonga to be preserved, protected and sustained.

AUT students Lleyton Koroiwaqalevu and Elizabeth Raitaci highlight the importance of the language and traditions connected to tabua, and encourage fellow students to embrace their Fijian heritage with pride.

Earlier this year, we caught up with four talented and passionate AUT architecture students who showcased their work in a two-week pop-up exhibition at Panmure Library. 🌿
 
Their projects are part of a wider collaboration with Auckland Urban Design Office’s Panmure Masterplan, involving over 300 students over the past three years to imagine and explore a thriving, just and regenerative future for Panmure.
 
We chatted with them about what inspired their work, why it matters and what they believe is important for Panmure’s future. ✨

Restaurant Month may over, but for some of our AUT culinary students, the experience is only just the beginning. ✨

Through Heart of the City's Next on the Pass initiative, 16 students teamed up with leading chefs across Tāmaki to co-create dishes for some of the city's top restaurants, gaining hands on experience and valuable industry connections along the way.

Students co-created dishes rooted in culture, tradition and heritage, reimagined through a contemporary lens. The pass featured dishes including veal sloppy joe with spicy gravy, line-caught fish crudo with saffron verjus, kawakawa semifreddo and Not Quite Lolly Cake, to name a few.

A month shaped by nostalgia, creativity and a celebration of exceptional New Zealand ingredients and AUT talent.

For some students, the opportunity continues beyond Restaurant Month, with invitations to stay on at the restaurants they worked with.

We're so proud to see our future chefs taking their next steps in the industry!

He wā whakanuia! 🏆

AUT Māori Students Association, Tītahi ki Tua, have successfully defended their national kapa haka title and won overall first place at Te Huinga Tauira 2026!

Led by Tumuaki Takirua (co-chairs), Te Amokura Hepi and Te Ahikaa Te Rangi-Trotman, and supported by Pou Haka (haka-leads), Aiesha Kahui-Heke and Kianu Enoka-Rupapera, Tītahi ki Tua delivered an outstanding performance across the week-long event.

The rōpū claimed top honours in their Waiata Tira, Karanga, Whakaeke, Mōteatea, Poi, Waiata ā Ringa, Haka, Whakawātea, Manu Kōrero, and Mita o Te Reo and prepared speeches in both te reo Māori and English.

This win is a testament to their hard work and dedication across many months. Me mihi ka tika ki a koutou! Tino poho kererū ana mātau i a koutou 🖤
