Yesterday was a huge moment for Auckland FC. But not just because of the trophy 🏆

From lifting the A-League trophy in Penrose to inspiring a new generation of football fans and players across Tāmaki Makaurau, AFC has built something bigger than a team this season. They’ve built a loyal community.

With record numbers of young people getting involved in football, and celebrations that reflected the cultures of our city, this win felt special - on and off the pitch.
Proud to partner with a club that puts community at the heart of everything they do. 💙

What if ordering lunch could help support Auckland’s street whānau?

Competing against 39 other groups, the team developed “Feed Forward”, a campaign designed to help strengthen community engagement and fundraising outcomes for Merge Café through a proposed Uber Eats partnership.
Inspired by Merge Café’s kaupapa of manaakitanga, whanaungatanga and kotahitanga, the students created a purpose-driven campaign that explored how everyday actions could create meaningful community impact.

Their work earned them $1,500 in funding to help bring the campaign to life alongside Merge Café, with plans to continue collaborating and volunteering with the organisation moving forward.

Congratulations to AUT students Alesha O’Connor (Team Leader), Anais Shand, Mirika Armstrong, Orion Houseman, also known as 'Team Ammo', for winning the Merge Café marketing competition 👏

A fantastic example of AUT students using creativity, strategy, and innovation to create real-world impact.

As Auckland prepares for a historic A-League Grand Final this weekend, we’re immensely proud to stand behind Auckland FC as their exclusive university partner.

Congratulations to the players, coaching staff and wider club – reaching a home Grand Final is a remarkable achievement and a reflection of the hard work, resilience and ambition that has united the team and inspired supporters across Tāmaki Makaurau.

Thank you Auckland FC for bringing Aucklanders together, for the energy you have brought to the city, for creating opportunities and inspiring the next generation of footballers.

Go Auckland FC, we are behind you all the way!

How far did you travel for AUT? ✈️🌍
For many, university is the beginning of something new – a step into independence, growth and possibility.

For others, it’s even more than that – a journey across borders, cultures and comfort zones in pursuit of something bigger.

Today, we celebrate the students who took that leap of faith, who brought their stories, perspectives and ambitions with them.
Who now help shape the vibrant, diverse whānau we’re proud to be part of at AUT.

Proof that one opportunity can change everything. An incredible programme that builds confidence, community and careers through the craft of bread.

Building Careers, One Loaf at a Time 🎓🍞✨
Sometimes, all it takes is one opportunity to change a life. Founded by Ana Djokovic, The Bread Collective is a transformative programme proudly hosted by AUT Hospitality and Tourism at our AUT - Auckland University of Technology City Campus, supporting former refugees into employment through the universal craft of bread baking.

By combining professional baking skills with holistic support - including language lessons and industry networking - this initiative removes barriers to employment and creates real-world pathways for its students.

The project grew from a shared vision between Ana and Senior Lecturer Arno Sturny, proving that when we back potential early, the impact is profound. With recent support from Foundation North and successful alumni placements at top bakeries like Daily Bread, The Bread Collective continues to turn potential into employment.

We are proud to support an initiative that fosters belonging, one loaf at a time. 🎓🤝

AUT has reached an exciting milestone with the opening of its new Biomedical Science Clinic, helping strengthen research that supports better health outcomes for Māori and Pacific communities.

With the addition of the Invitrogen Attune Xenith Flow Cytometer, researchers can now take a deeper approach to studying the immune system and contribute to addressing important gaps in global research.

This new clinic and instrument represents a step forward for AUT – growing in-house expertise, supporting community-focused research, and advancing more equitable health outcomes for Māori and Pacific peoples.

“Caring for myself is not self-indulgence, it is self-preservation.”

Access to these medical and mental health services shouldn’t be a privilege; they should be a right.

Located above Te Āhuru Recreation Centre, we’re proud to open our new wellness centre, Mōwai. A space designed to support, uplift and care for our students.

We hope Mōwai becomes a place where all students – especially those who have faced barriers to accessing medical and mental health services – can come to feel seen, supported and safe.❤️

This space brings together support for mental, physical and spiritual wellbeing under one roof. By transforming an existing office floor, Mōwai now includes private counselling spaces, medical clinic rooms and a dedicated Rainbow student services space, all within an environment that is comforting, inclusive and grounded in care.

A huge thank you to our partners, Jasmax for helping bring this vision to life and creating a space that truly centres the wellbeing of our students.

Our interior design, engineering and architecture students visited the recently completed Meredith Connell office fit-out in central Auckland.

A big thank you to the host, AUT alum Raji Rai. The guided site visit gave students the chance to see how multidisciplinary teams collaborate in a commercial fitout environment – from interior and spatial design through to engineering integration.

If you saw a lot of orange at Round the Bays… that was us 🧡👟

This year, 395 AUT students and staff from our City, North and South Campuses took part, making Team AUT the largest non-sponsored team in the event!

It was fantastic to see our community come together and represent AUT with pride among tens of thousands of participants across Tāmaki Makaurau.

A great day celebrating connection, community and the AUT whānau.

Semester 1 Orientation has wrapped up, marking the beginning of an exciting new chapter for our newest students 🧡

Across our campuses, we’ve seen students connecting with peers, exploring opportunities, and taking their first steps into university life. Orientation is more than an introduction; it’s the start of belonging.

We are proud to welcome each student as they begin their AUT journey and look forward to seeing the ideas, ambition and impact they will bring to AUT, and to the world.

Who are the young leaders shaping the future of Aotearoa?

Nominations are now open for the YWCA Y25 List, which recognises young wāhine and gender-diverse leaders aged 15–25 across Aotearoa. Many AUT students, graduates and alumni have been recognised on the Y25 List for their outstanding contributions over the years.

AUT is proud to support this programme, which celebrates and connects emerging leaders and unsung heroes from across the country.

If you know an AUT student or alumna achieving great things, submit a nomination or encourage them to nominate themselves.

Nominations are free and close Sunday 15 March 2026.

Be a lifesaver and donate blood at the AUT City Campus.
Aotearoa needs more than 2,500 donations every week to make sure blood is available for those who need it. The gift of blood can only be given from one person to another. By putting aside a small part of your day, you can make a life-changing difference to someone in need.

What a day 🌈 Last Sunday we had the joy of attending Big Gay Out. A celebration bursting with colour, music and community. It was a powerful reminder of pride and self‑expression in all its forms.

We loved being part of a space grounded in manaakitanga (care and respect) and kotahitanga (togetherness), where people could connect, celebrate diversity and show up as their unapologetic selves.
