The qualifications offered by the Cut Above Academy are first-class credentials in contemporary image making. We offer a unique range

of fulltime courses in hairdressing, beauty therapy, nail art and make-up artistry for fashion, film, and FX production. Each course is designed to exacting industry standards and approved by the NZQA as a quality assured qualification.In today’s beauty and creative workforces you need to be multi-skilled. Salon and beauty clinic owners want operators with extra skills in make-up or nail artistry. Production companies want make-up and FX artists who can style hair, create prosthetics and assist in wardrobe, props and fashion styling. Our wide-ranging syllabus allows you to add these skills to your CV – or progress to training in another field at the end of your chosen course. As the driving force in image-making training we produce more skilled graduates for these workforces than any other school. Cut Above is the only NZ academy where you can gain an equivalent range of nationally recognised credits in all of these fields.

We had the privilege of welcoming barbering legend Jeremy Hava, owner of Hava & Co, to Cut Above Academy. 💈🔥
Jeremy joined our barbering cohorts for an incredible live demonstration, sharing his technical expertise, industry experience, and valuable advice with the next generation of barbers.
From mastering the craft to navigating the industry, our students gained some seriously valuable insights from one of the best in the business. 🙌

This week we proudly celebrated Kuki Airani Language Week by embracing the richness of Cook Islands culture, language, food, music, dance, and community. 🌺🌴

Guided by this year’s theme, “Me kite koe i te tuatua i tō’ou reo tūpuna, e tūranga rangatira tēnā nō’ou nō te uki āmuri atu” - “With our language as our foundation, we will embrace the future,” our celebration honoured the traditions of our ancestors while inspiring future generations.

From sharing traditional kai and enjoying the vibrant sounds of the Pacific to the energy of traditional dance, it was a beautiful opportunity to connect, learn from one another, and celebrate the spirit of Kuki Airani together.

A heartfelt meitaki ma’ata to Pacific Resources for sharing your incredible music and helping create such a memorable celebration. Your performance truly brought the spirit and sound of the Pacific to life. 🎶🌺

What an incredible way to celebrate Matariki ✨

Our talented Cut Above Academy students were proud to be part of Te Korakora ki Waihorotiu, providing fades, braids and makeup while connecting with the community through this amazing celebration of Māori culture, music and creativity.

A big thank you to Auckland Unlimited, Dena Jacob (Ngāiterangi) and everyone involved in bringing this special event to life. We’re grateful to have been part of such a memorable day.

Meet our winning team – Pedro & Bryan, with James behind the camera! 🫡

As part of our barbering content challenge, students teamed up to create an interview-style reel introducing themselves, sharing their barbering journey, and showcasing their own creative editing style.

The challenge was all about building confidence on camera, developing storytelling skills, and learning how to market themselves on social media – because being a great barber is also about building your personal brand.
