Following our Cupcake decorating event earlier in the year, where we got to have a bit of fun while raising money for and awareness for Breast Cancer and Breast Cancer Research, we ended up with a total of $500 donated! Thank you so much to everyone who contributed and who came along and supported one of many worthy causes 💕

Image Description:
Slide 1 features a pink awareness ribbon and text which says "we raised $500 for the Breast Cancer Foundation with our community's help!".
Slide 2 has text which reads "do your breast self exam today, prevention is better than a cure". On the left hand side are three circles containing images of different colour torsos. Superimposed over the chests are three movements to check for any possible growths. The first and third shows a pattern of massage that radiates out from the ni**le, the second follows circles out from the ni**le. Both are important for checking for breast cancer.

To commemorate Te Wiki o te Reo Māori, we are sharing some terms that will relate to many of our community members! Why not add the te reo Māori translations of your teaching or research work in your email signature, CV, or any other documents. ✨

Ake, ake, ake, 'A forever language' is the theme of this year's week, representing the resilience, adaptability and endurance of te reo Māori. It also can serve as reminder that all of us have work to do in upholding te Tiriti o Waitangi, in our own mahi, and at a whole country level!

Feel free to practice your te reo Māori conversation at our Coffee social on Thursday, or at our Movie night on this Friday! (See your emails for details or message us if you don't receive them).

Kia māhorahora te reo - let's make it seen, make it heard.

Some of you may be aware that the University of Auckland has proposed a cull to small undergraduate and postgraduate courses at all faculties. Not all small courses will be automatically cut, however faculties have been asked to “optimise” by removing courses, which may start as early as 2025. The criteria around which courses will be cut remains unknown to us.a

The FMHS PGSA are strongly opposed to the culling of smaller taught courses at both undergraduate and postgraduate level. We intend to keep a close eye on the situation as it develops and endeavour to proponent our concerns, taking action where appropriate. We intend to make the voice of postgraduate students at FMHS heard, which means we need your help. If you have any feedback/concerns about these changes to courses please fill out this google form: https://forms.gle/6FgSrbpxMAQNysve6

Link is in bio ⭐️

Feedback may include how you feel in general about small courses being cut or how these changes may impact you directly (but feel free to include anything relevant). We will compile these into a letter to be sent to Dawn Freshwater regarding the proposed changes.

There is a QR code to use for donations, but donations can also be given in person. In the lower right corner there is a sticker showing that this event is in partnership with the Breast Cancer Foundation NZ.

Today is International Trans Day of Visibility!

A day to celebrate the lives of our trans whānau and raise awareness of challenges faced by the community, including lack of ability of many trans people to be visible in our communities for safety reasons.

Did you know? Wapapa Taumata Rau | University of Auckland can support trans students through both pastoral care and financial aid when legally changing their name!

Image Description: Slide 1, two figures with brown skin and dark hair wearing pink and blue outfits, one more femme and one more masculine, are waving the trans pride flag and smiling. The FMHS-PGSA logo is in the top right corner. Slide 2, a trans pride flag border with the above text inside.

Happy Auckland Pride Month FMHS-PGSA whānau! 🏳️‍🌈🏳️‍⚧️ (For yesterday, oops!). We hope you all enjoy a fantastic month with all the pride events that are on around the place, check out if you're keen on getting involved 😊

We are proud to have many wonderful rainbow folks on our board (you know who you are 😉), and have compiled here a few facts about the community at UoA and in higher education in general. This is the perfect time to improve your allyship too, check out the last slide for just a few ways everyone can contribute.

Also a reminder, trans rights are human rights! 🏳️‍⚧️
