On Tuesday, Velocity and GMB came together for Women in Entrepreneurship 2026, an evening celebrating the women building, leading, and backing the next generation of ventures.

Students and aspiring founders gathered to hear honest stories about starting up, backing yourself, and advice they had for aspiring entrepreneurs.

A huge thank you to everyone who came along and made the night so special!

Our heartfelt thanks to the speakers who shared their journeys so openly:

✨ Anna Paterson, Founder of Everlasting
✨ Helen Zipei Liu, Founder of YNova
✨ Isay Acenas, Investor at Outset Ventures
✨ Kate Ricketts, Founder of ISpyNits and The Nest Tāmaki Makaurau

From building companies to backing them, their stories showed there’s no single path to entrepreneurship, and left the room feeling inspired to take their own leap to entrepreneurship.

The Velocity team is officially recruiting you to join our team for 2027!

Ready to get more out of uni than lectures and assignments? Velocity is New Zealand’s largest student-led innovation and entrepreneurship programme, and for over two decades we’ve been backing the next generation of founders at UoA and beyond.

Now we’re looking for our next team to help take it even further.

🔸 What we get up to🔸

Every year our committee runs some of the biggest student-led events in the country, including two flagship competitions throughout the year and outreach events that bring innovation to students across campus and beyond.

🫵What’s in it for you?

Joining Velocity means joining a crew of curious, ambitious people who push each other to do cool things. You’ll build skills you can’t get in a classroom, meet people who’ll become some of your closest mates, and (of course) share a few legendary team dinners along the way!

📅 Applications close on the 30th of October at 12pm - Sign up link is on our bio!

Last Tuesday, Velocity and SAMS UoA together for Science to Start-Up 2026, an evening dedicated to medical entrepreneurship and healthcare innovation.

Students, researchers, and founders filled Unleash Space for round-table conversations and inspiring founder stories, exploring how great science becomes great ventures. Thank you to everyone who joined us and made the event a huge success.

Our sincere thanks to the four speakers who shared their expertise so generously:
