A look back at Prime Minister Christopher Luxon’s visit to NZSE College’s New Lynn campus!

From meeting our Tertiary Pathways learners to putting his barista skills to the test with our hospitality students, the Prime Minister got a taste of life at NZSE.

Alongside Health Minister Simeon Brown, Luxon also met our health learners, hearing about the importance of patient dignity and choice before watching them demonstrate their practical bed-hoisting skills. He praised their “caring remarks” and gentle approach.

To finish, Luxon chatted with our future teachers about their ambitions, telling them, “You are AWESOME. We are in good hands with young people like you coming through.”

Last Friday’s NZSE College Graduation Ceremony marked a special milestone for us: the first graduating cohorts of the Bachelor of Business Information Management (Level 7) and New Zealand Diploma in Engineering (Electronic Engineering) (Level 6).

For our academic staff, watching these learners cross the stage was a particularly proud moment. Both programmes were carefully developed, and it’s been rewarding to see these learners grow throughout their time at NZSE.

We were delighted to hear from Bachelor of Business Information Management alumna Shekinah Herewini, who shared the whakataukī kua ara te rā, kua oho te āo mārama — the sun has risen, and the enlightened world has awakened. Her words reflected the fresh beginnings ahead for our graduates.

Congratulations to both cohorts! We wish you all the best for what comes next and look forward to seeing where your qualifications take you. You’ll always be welcome at NZSE.

“Remember, extraordinary achievements begin with ordinary efforts, repeated every day with accountability, sincerity, and ownership. Do it from your heart every day.”

These were the words of NZSE Founder Brijesh Sethi to hundreds of NZSE College graduates on Friday 9 October, as they gathered at the International Convention Centre in Auckland City to celebrate the culmination of their studies.

It was a colourful, uplifting day, with graduates dressed in their finest and carrying an infectious sense of excitement as they reached this major milestone.

From improving health and wellbeing outcomes to shaping children's lives through education, informing business decisions with data, and developing engineering solutions, our class of 2026 is ready to make valuable contributions to Aotearoa New Zealand.

Last year, Prime Minister Christopher Luxon opened our new Auckland city campus. Recently, he returned to where it all began, visiting NZSE College’s original campus in New Lynn!

Our students from across NZSE’s schools made the most of the opportunity, teaching the Prime Minister some barista skills, quizzing him on patient care in social work, sharing their ambitions to become teachers, and putting him through a practical training exercise.

PM Luxon was joined by members and candidates of the National Party, including Hon Simeon Brown MP, Glendene candidate Sunil Kumar, and Waitākere candidate Agnes Loheni.

He was visibly impressed by our students and their dedication. “You are AWESOME. We are in good hands with young people like you coming through,” he said.

Happy orientation day to the second cohort to study NZSE College’s Postgraduate Diploma in Healthcare Level 8, and the Graduate Certificate in Healthcare (Level 7)! It was a pleasure to welcome this group onto campus with a mihi whakatau, wishing them well on their academic journey and some words of encouragement.

The Graduate Certificate in Healthcare (Level 7) develops foundational knowledge and skills in healthcare, while providing a bridging pathway for learners with a non-health qualification who want to progress into postgraduate study. The Postgraduate Diploma in Healthcare Level 8 builds on this foundation, equipping learners with advanced knowledge and practical expertise to address complex health challenges across Aotearoa New Zealand.

We cannot wait to see these learners progress through their studies, nau mai!

That’s how Dr Stephen Kendall-Jones, Head of Education, describes the level of care and commitment that goes into supporting NZSE College learners to become successful teaching graduates.

In our latest video, listen to Kendall-Jones break down NZSE’s Graduate Diploma in Teaching (Primary) (Level 7) and Graduate Diploma in Teaching (Secondary) (Level 7).

At the heart of these qualifications is NZSE’s work-integrated learning model, where learners spend half of each week immersed in the classroom environment and learning directly alongside experienced teachers.

“This is designed to make you teacher-ready from the final day of class. With now 40% of classrooms including learners with complex needs, the importance of our kaiako knowing how to respond to diversity is more essential than ever,” says Kendall Jones.

“That’s the difference with NZSE. Rather than spending a year focused primarily on theory, our learners are partnered with the right school for them and spend substantial time in the classroom developing the practical skills needed to become confident, capable teachers."
