Ceramic college Ceramic college is a ceramic educational facility. It holds classes in ceramics for adults during the school term. We are in Belmont, North Shore, Auckland, NZ

Ceramic College is run by Teresa Watson, an award winning ceramic artist. Teresa has been teaching ceramics for the last 20 years from her home studio and art centers. The opportunity to house a ceramic studio in a beautiful historic church at 159 Bayswater Ave on the shore, was an opportunity not to be missed. The College is set up with 5 pottery wheels and a cupboard fill of glazes. The College focuses on earthenware clays which are fired in an electric Shimpo kiln. Classes are available to adults and children.

Faenza has so many ceramic destinations, and nothing beats visiting the workshop of Carlo Zauli (1926 - 2002) It is so worth the visit. You get totally immersed in his work and his studio. The mixing machines the pug mill and 3 massive kilns not forgetting 3 levels of displays. It’s like stepping back in time when someone just walked away and left it in a frozen state. Truly inspirational.

We have great news!! Jenny Matthews is going to help us out while Latasha Wildman | Ceramics | maker is on maternity leave. If you are interested in making those Christmas gifts that you have always wanted to make, well Jenny is your tutor. She has all those stamps and shapes you could ever think of, and she will bring them for you to use. Tuesday nights is worth booking into for term 4.

Some work and some lunch. I’m using a whitish clay from Italy and a groggy red clay with black speckles from Germany. It should be interesting to see the results. Having time out to work in a studio without having to pack away everything at the end of the day is a luxury. Feeling pleased.

On my way to Museo Internazionale Ceramiche for a coffee break and a read in a ceramic magazine, only to find the actual piece in the museum. This museum is full of contemporary ceramics as well as works dating back to medieval times. So worth the visit, I have a pass for the whole month!!

I’m having a New Zealand ceramic break by having an artist in residence in Faenza Italy for a month. What does a potter do for a holiday? Nothing better than be surrounded by a town known for its ceramics. Every second shop here has its own little workshop inside their retail space. Every street sign is also ceramics, it is like going to ceramic heaven. Check out the stories for more photos.

Spring has arrived along with the flowering kowhai and the flowers beds. We also got a heap of fresh mulch, thanks to Jan. We are so thankful for all the support we are getting from the community. Thanks Diane Kelly for your support and the energy you bring to the college and the garden. This would not have happened without you all. Having a 10 week term is so good. It means more time on projects and less pressure on our time to get things finished. Super impressed by the level of work that is being produced especially from some complete beginners. Thanks to the Slade family for bringing in their beautiful fur baby, what a sweetie she is. We are a small family run ceramic studio which had no signage. Now we feel all grown up, because we have been here for over 12 years now and should maybe tell everyone driving past that inside the church is a ceramic studio. I’m loving the pop of colour and it almost matches the colour of the door.
