Recently, EIT Auckland welcomed Asian Family Services (AFS) back to campus for the second workshop in our International Student Wellbeing Workshop Series.

Focusing on Money, Accommodation and Settling In, the session provided international students with practical tools to help them confidently navigate life in Aotearoa New Zealand. Students learned about budgeting, managing living expenses, preparing for larger costs such as bond payments, and recognising financial pressures before they become difficult to manage. The workshop also explored housing options, tenancy agreements, tenant rights, and how to identify potential rental scams.

A highlight of the session was an interactive flat-viewing role-play, led by AFS team members, which gave students the opportunity to practise inspecting a property, asking landlords important questions, and making informed rental decisions. The activity encouraged discussion, peer learning and confidence-building in a realistic setting.

Thank you to AFS for another engaging and informative workshop, and to all students who participated so enthusiastically. We look forward to welcoming students back for the next session in the series.

EIT Auckland students recently took part in the Thriving Academically and Building Your Future workshop, delivered by Asian Family Services as part of the International Student Workshop Series.

The interactive session introduced practical strategies for adjusting to living and studying in New Zealand, developing healthy study habits and improving time management. Students reflected on their personal wellbeing and learned useful techniques for managing stress, improving sleep and maintaining resilience throughout their study journey.

The workshop provided a valuable opportunity for students to connect with their peers, share experiences and learn in a welcoming and supportive environment. Thank you to the Asian Family Services team for delivering an engaging and informative session, and to all the students who participated so positively.

Yesterday, EIT Auckland welcomed representatives from Auckland Transport to campus for an informative and interactive transportation session. Students learned more about travelling around Auckland by bus and train, using the AT HOP card, understanding the public transport network, and planning their journeys across the city.

The session also included a fun prize-wheel activity, giving students the opportunity to test their knowledge and win prizes. It was an enjoyable and practical session that helped students feel more confident about using Auckland’s public transport system.

As a new term starts, we are delighted to welcome our new international students to our EIT Auckland community. This term, students are beginning their postgraduate studies in Information Technology, Applied Management, Digital Business, Logistics and Supply Chain Management and Health Science.

Orientation provided the opportunity for students to connect with staff members, peer mentors, and their fellow students. They were introduced to the academic environment, campus facilities, health and safety requirements, and the range of support services available on campus. Students also met with the Academic Learning Services team and learned how to access the library, EIT systems and class timetables.

Our new EIT Auckland students were also welcomed with a pōwhiri at the Ngā Kete Wānanga Marae at MIT Ōtara. This experience helped students gain a deeper understanding of tikanga Māori and culture in Aotearoa New Zealand.

Yesterday, a group of students visited the Auckland Art Gallery where they explored a variety of contemporary and historical artworks, including Māori art. The experience helped students explore the creative expressions, stories and heritage that have shaped New Zealand and beyond.

It was a good way to connect with fellow students, learn more about art and culture, and take a refresher during the busy term. Thank you to everyone who joined us, and we look forward to seeing you at our next student event!

An EIT researcher has contributed to a global study testing the limits of artificial intelligence, with the work published in Nature, one of the world’s most prestigious scientific journals.

Dr Syed Shahid, a Senior Postgraduate Lecturer in Health Science based at EIT’s Auckland campus, is among more than 1000 researchers involved in the international collaboration, which includes contributors from more than 500 universities worldwide.
