Welcome to all our new postgraduate students starting with us this Term!

Last week, we held orientation that welcomed students to our EIT Auckland Community. Orientation is more than just an introduction to tertiary study, it allows students to familiarise themselves with the campus, connect with others, learn about the support services available to them, and gain valuable insights into academic expectations. Students were also welcomed with a pōwhiri at Ngā Kete Wānanga Marae at MIT Ōtara.

We are thrilled to have you join us. Your postgraduate journey starts here, and we encourage you to make the most of every opportunity to build connections, discover new experiences, and become an active part of our community.

EIT Auckland students enjoyed a spring outing to Cornwall Park and Maungakiekie / One Tree Hill last week.

An uphill walk to the summit of Maungakiekie provided plenty of opportunities for conversation, laughter and encouragement along the way. Students gathered beneath the obelisk for group photos while enjoying panoramic views across Auckland and the Waitematā Harbour. This provided a beautiful setting for students to pause, appreciate the landscape and capture memories together.

After visiting the summit, the group walked down through Cornwall Park to the gardens to see the cherry blossom and enjoy the peaceful surroundings as they explored another side of Auckland.

The trip was a positive way to celebrate the end of the term. It encouraged students to take a break from their studies, spend time outdoors and discover some of Auckland’s natural and cultural landmarks together.

Our EIT Auckland students got together to decorate lanterns for Mid-Autumn Festival. The colourful lanterns created during the afternoon were a fitting reflection of the diversity of the EIT Auckland community and their cultures and experiences. Students also shared messages of support for Nepal.

Last week, our students took a break from their studies to enjoy a lunchtime visit to Auckland Art Gallery Toi o Tāmaki.

The visit provided a welcome opportunity to relax, connect with peers and recharge during a busy term. It was wonderful to see students enjoying the experience, and we hope it encourages them to continue exploring Auckland’s many cultural and community spaces.

Recently, EIT Auckland welcomed Asian Family Services (AFS) back to campus for the second workshop in our International Student Wellbeing Workshop Series.

Focusing on Money, Accommodation and Settling In, the session provided international students with practical tools to help them confidently navigate life in Aotearoa New Zealand. Students learned about budgeting, managing living expenses, preparing for larger costs such as bond payments, and recognising financial pressures before they become difficult to manage. The workshop also explored housing options, tenancy agreements, tenant rights, and how to identify potential rental scams.

A highlight of the session was an interactive flat-viewing role-play, led by AFS team members, which gave students the opportunity to practise inspecting a property, asking landlords important questions, and making informed rental decisions. The activity encouraged discussion, peer learning and confidence-building in a realistic setting.

Thank you to AFS for another engaging and informative workshop, and to all students who participated so enthusiastically. We look forward to welcoming students back for the next session in the series.
