• The song F*** the Police by N.W.A. is a song about the racist police man in America. It is written like a court case, each rapper having a different part to play with in it.
• The song is about how the black population is being treated unfairly by the system within America.
• It also draws reference to how the Black police man can be even more brutal than the white.
• N.W.A an abbreviation of Ni**az Wit Attitudes.
• A group that was promonant within the late eightys early ninetys.

Steve Reich Drumming
• A piece of minimalism music Steve Reich composed this is in 1960 to 1961; Steve Reich composed the piece after a short trip to Africa where he observed the drumming there.
• The piece employs Reich's trademark technique of phasing. Phasing is achieved when two players are both playing the same rhythm at different tempos.
• In total, the work requires 9 percussionists. With the additional players, the piece can be performed by 12 or 13 players.

Dmitri Shostakovich symphony No.5
• Totalitarianism is a political system in which the state holds total authority over the society. Joseph Stalin leader of the soviet Union at the time said that the opera (lady Mcbeth) composed by Shastakovich was a muddle instead of music as it was a social realism piece of music that did not appeal to him.
• Dmitri Shostakovich fearing for his life wrote synthony No.5 to comply with the genre.
• When the song was first premiered in 1937 it received a standing ovation that lasted over half an hour.

• This song is a song protesting human rights in particular woman’s wrights in Russia, the song is an act of support for Russian political prisoners and calls out the Russian government as being corupted.
• Also giving reference to the fact that the trials for prisoners are treated unfair, prisoners are in custody for months before the trial.
• P***y Riot are a female punk rock political protest group based in Moscow.

Elvis Presley Hound Dog
• "Hound Dog" is a twelve-bar blues song written by Jerry Leiber and Mike Stolle. It has been covered by many different artists; Elvis Presleys version is one of the best-selling singles of all time.
• Elvis Presley released his version in 1956 Presley's version, which sold about 10 million copies globally, was his best-selling song and "an emblem of the rock 'n' roll revolution".

Karlheinz Stockhausen Helicopter Quartet
• It involves a string quartet, four helicopters with pilots, as well as audio and video equipment and technicians. It was first performed and recorded in 1995.
• The song begins on the ground with four people playing a stringed instrument they then climb into one of the four Helicopters and Fly. This song was influenced by when Karlheinz Stockhausen was at a party there were people whispering about him behind his back, Stockhausen imagined he was fling away.

• The title of the work “refers both to contacts between instrumental and electronic sound groups and to contacts between self-sufficient, strongly characterized moments in this case four-channel loudspeaker reproduction,.
• An organised form of randomness that was realized in 1958–60 Kontakte is composed in four channels, with loudspeakers placed at the corners of a square surrounding the audience.

Pierre Schaeffer etude aux chemins de fer
• Pierre schaeffer is widely known as the core developer of the musical genre ‘Music Concrete’ a genre that utilized the musical technology of post-world war two.
• Etude Aux Chemins de fer translates to the study of railways the peace of music is an audio mashup of steam engines, whistles, and other railroad sounds.

Douglas Lilburn The return
• A piece of electronic music that was composed in 1965 prior to the release of this piece Douglas Lilburn had been very involved in classical music. But in the 1960s turned his attention away from conventional music, towards electronic music as he thought NZ had to have its own sound or ambience.
• Lilburn was particularly interested in evoking New Zealand’s natural environment, which he does through meditative drones. Using electronics to replicate concrete elements.
Radio head ‘Idioteque’ from kid A
• The lyrics Idioteque contain is Radio heads most heavily analyzed song. The lyrics do not directly explain them, but "Idioteque" has been described by others as an "apocalyptic" song, with possible references to natural disaster, war and technological breakdown.
• This song used the Cut-up technique, this is where a finished and fully linear text is cut in pieces, then performed.
