It’s Geodiversity Day today! And what better way to celebrate than by learning about sustainable tourism development outside the classroom 🌿

It's been our third time bringing students to the Waitaki Whitestone UNESCO Global Geopark, to learn about collaboration and partnerships that truly value mana whenua perspectives and geoconservation in destination development.

We started our visit at Kaihinaki, with a warm welcome from Trevor McGlinchey (GM of Te Rūnanga o Moeraki) and Mauriri Kimura-McGlinchey (Chair of the Geopark Trust). Our group is also privileged and grateful to listen to mana whenua stories from Trevor and Mauriri, and learn about the new exciting developments in Kaihinaki.

For the rest of the trip, we engaged with many entrepreneurs and organisations who collaborate with the geopark, including the newly upgraded Oamaru Blue Penguin Colony, luxury BnB The Old School Enfield, and flagship attraction, Vanished World Centre in Duntroon.

This successful field trip would not have been possible without the unwavering support and mahi of the Geopark Manager Lynley Browne and Geoscientist Sasha Morriss who provided geological interpretation of the sites.

Many thanks also to our team from UC, our Kaiarahi Lyndon Waaka who shared mana whenua stories and Ning (Chris) Chen for hia care and attention to our students.

Thanks a million to all involved in the trip and to the MKTG317 student cohort for being so engaged and enthusiastic in this learning experience 😊

Congratulations to the UC MBA team who took first place at the National MBA Case Competition hosted by the University of Otago this weekend. This from one of the contestants:

“We gained far more from the experience than we anticipated. The process has not only boosted our confidence, but also allowed us to apply many of the skills and lessons we've been learning in our courses.

Our result is truly a testament to the high-quality program and the talented lecturers we are fortunate to learn from.”

Well done Sarah Velluppillai, Jared Kleinjan, Grace Little and James Mackenzie! And many thanks for your hard work in preparing for the competition.
