Prominent Malaysian business and finance leader Tan Sri Datuk Oh Siew Nam P.S.M., P.J.N., whose UC journey began with a Colombo Plan scholarship, received an honorary doctorate at the University's Spring Engineering graduation celebration on Tuesday 25 August.

The honorary doctorate recognises Tan Sri Oh's outstanding contribution to business, finance, public service and philanthropy, as well as his enduring connection to UC and support for Malaysian students.

Professor Michael Plank has been in the news last week as one of NZ’s leading experts in infectious disease modelling, speaking to Newstalk ZB and RNZ about the current flu outbreak, what might happen next, and what lessons from Covid-19 could help inform the response.

It was fantastic to catch up with our alumni and friends in Sibu, Malaysia, last night. We're also delighted to see the gathering featured in the local newspaper.

UC's connection with Malaysia spans more than 70 years, dating back to the Colombo Plan Scholarship Programme in the 1950s. It was wonderful to celebrate those longstanding ties and reconnect with our alumni community.

A big thank you to everyone who joined us for dinner. We look forward to seeing our alumni and friends in Kuching and Kuala Lumpur in the coming days 🙌
