Years of preparation have seen surveillance systems, species protection plans and even vaccine programmes put in place. Yet some of our rarest birds remain at risk.

Discover why some species are more vulnerable than others, and what H5N1 can teach us about protecting wildlife from whatever threat comes next.

Professor Michael Plank has been in the news last week as one of NZ’s leading experts in infectious disease modelling, speaking to Newstalk ZB and RNZ about the current flu outbreak, what might happen next, and what lessons from Covid-19 could help inform the response.

Now you can hear from him in person at Raising the Bar. Michael will take you behind the predictions and explain how experts use mathematical models to make sense of outbreaks, deal with uncertainty and work out what might happen next.
