Put 27-30 Aug in your diary for our International Speaker Series. A number of inspirational speakers are being brought to Christchurch to share their experiences of redeveloping cities & communities which have been subjected to devastation.

The draft Central City Plan will be available for public consultation from Tuesday 16 August. You will have five weeks to make a submission. Keep watching for further details and for info about upcoming Roadshows and an International Speaker Series.

Work is progressing at a cracking pace as we near the deadline for completion of the draft Central City Plan. The draft plan will go to the 11 August Council meeting for any final changes and adoption for public consultation.

A final total of 106,000 ideas have been processed for the Central City Plan - an amazing result! It is exciting that so many people have been involved in helping to shape a plan for our future Central City.

Work writing the draft Central City Plan is well underway and on target to be completed by the end of this month for consideration at a series of Councillor Workshops. Our partners – ECan, Ngai Tahu and CERA – continue to be consulted through this phase.

We have received ideas from across Australia, throughout the UK, the USA and Canada, Ireland, Hong Kong, Sweden, Italy, Netherlands, Berlin and Qatar - most from former Christchurch residents. It’s great to know our ex-pat community are still passionate about the redevelopment of our Central City.

February 2011’s earthquake caused extensive damage to Christchurch’s Central City. Many of the city’s buildings have been badly damaged and much of the city as people knew it has changed forever.

This week the number of ideas processed has hit more than 100,000 – this is amazing! St Albans residents contributed the most ideas, followed by those living in the Central City, then Cashmere, New Brighton, Halswell, Burwood, Sumner, Avonhead, Spreydon and Merivale.

The 48hr Design Challenge, run by the Christchurch City Council and held at Lincoln University, provided an opportunity for Council to gain inspiration from the design and architecture industry, while testing the draft Central City Plan currently being developed.
