Philosophy has been available in senior curriculum since 2011 and we are pleased to see its value continue to be recognized as it forms part of the new Civics, Politics, and Philosophy curriculum.

We’re introducing Civics, Politics and Philosophy as a new subject for senior secondary students.

From 2029, students in Years 12 and 13 will be able to study democracy, politics and philosophy, developing the knowledge and skills to think critically, weigh evidence and engage respectfully with different ideas.

It’s about preparing young New Zealanders to think for themselves, participate confidently in our democracy and engage thoughtfully with the world around them.
