Thank you for all the messages and wishes. Bob's been on a roller coaster health journey over the last few weeks and his body seems to have settled on a slow decline and is winning this battle. We are moving to palliative care in line with his preferences and advance care plan. I'm hoping Bob will pick an easier journey next time around, but chances are he'll be back teaching arts in a land of octopuses (which, as he alluded to many times, adds a whole new slant to "the other left hand.")

Bob has dislocated his neck in a fall at C5 C6 and could possibly be off on another adventure that each of us will eventually follow. He's pulled through some tough times that the doctors did not expect him to (typical Bob - defying the odds). The expectation is still high that he could die within days or weeks but they are, for the first time, suggesting the possibility that he might survive longer but with tetraplegia (something Bob was clear that he didn't wish to push through should it happen) in a high care facility. Based on Bob's advanced care plan and initial wishes we are not following an aggressive recovery plan but focusing more on quality of life (which involves increased risk of further neck injury or lung complications) vs life extension choices. If you'd like to express thoughts, love, support... I'm happy to pass them on. Feel free to post on this page (Bob has okayed a public FB post) or email me at shaz at wu-shin dot com. Bob also wanted me to send a heartfelt thanks to all his students over the years.
