The Department provides tuition for students studying Physics or Astronomy as a subject for the Bachelor of Science, the Honours Bachelor of Science and for research degrees (MSc, PhD). Physics and Astronomy aim to understand the behaviour of matter: from the scale of subatomic particles to that of the Universe itself. While past discoveries are of fundamental importance to science and all its app

lications, our disciplines contrive to be very active and fruitful fields of research. The University of Canterbury has been compared to a village consisting of many groups of people. Even after several years of study you will still be exploring the "streets" of this village, for it consists of many teaching and research areas. The Department of Physics and Astronomy is one of the larger departments at the University of Canterbury. If you want further information on courses, the policies and procedures the Department follows, or about particular research areas, please do not hesitate to contact us and we will arrange for you to see the most appropriate person. Interested in studying, undertaking research, completing an internship or collaborating in France?

Join us tomorrow for Opportunities in the Francosphere, a day of short seminars featuring speakers from UC, the French Embassy, CNRS and other organisations.

Speakers include UC physicist Laura Cobus, who will discuss her experience undertaking a Marie Skłodowska-Curie postdoctoral fellowship in France and working in French laboratories.

You’ll also hear from:

• Hervé Quenol from CNRS on climate modelling, environmental science and opportunities to work with CNRS
• UC engineering student Liam Bately on completing a bioengineering internship in France
• Anne Rouault from the French Embassy on France–New Zealand cooperation and opportunities for university students

The event is open to everyone—you don’t need to speak French, study French or be a FrenchSoc member.
