¡Hola a tod@s!
If you would like to immerse yourself in a Spanish speaking community, interact with native speakers on a daily basis for a whole semester and pick up the language naturally, there is a fantastic opportunity for you!!! The Language and Culture Assistant Programme is an initiative of the Spanish Ministry of Education that provides scholarships for New Zealand university students (who are at least in their second year and majoring in any subject) who want to spend some time working in Spain assisting English teachers (visa is granted).
I'm attaching to this message a brochure with more information about this programme, and you can find more information online: https://www.educacionyfp.gob.es/nuevazelanda/en_NZ/convocatorias-programas/auxiliares-de-conversacion-neozelandeses.html
This Thursday 14th March, 4-5 p.m. (pencil this date in your diary) Clara Gómez-Jimeno, Education Adviser of the Embassy of Spain in New Zealand, will be joining us in a Zoom meeting to talk about this programme and give very useful information on how to apply.
For this info session, you can join Clara via Zoom through this link: Join Zoom Meeting
https://canterbury.zoom.us/j/97118802192 Meeting ID: 971 1880 2192
but you could also come to Elsie Locke 611 where we will be hosting this Zoom meeting with coffee and biscuits 😉
For many consecutive years, many UC students from the Spanish Programme have taken this opportunity and have had the time of their life!
Some important requirements to keep in mind:
· Be a citizen of New Zealand, Australia, Fiji, Vanuatu, Tonga, The Solomon Islands, the Philippines, India, or Singapore.
· Be a native-level speaker of English.
· Have completed a university degree or be at least a second-year student of a Bachelor’s degree.
One more thing I should add... If you are accepted into this programme (all UC students fulfilling the requirements that have applied have been accepted!) and would like to gain some credits for your BA while gaining personal and professional development within an international setting, you could also sign up for PACE350, a 5-weeks on-campus work first half of summer school (Nov-Dec) and gain 30 points at 300 level This opportunity is open to all disciplines across UC and the pre-requisite is 60 points at 200-level completed.
If you have further questions you can ask here!
¡Gracias y saludos!
