Coming up around town, two exhibitions at the Blue Oyster Art Project Space.
Te Ikahoungata, is the BOG external Māori curator for 2026. Through bringing together Ngaumutane Jones, Keita Newbery and Mara TK in a series of wānanga, Te Ikahoungata has curated a beautiful exhibition, imagining futures where Te Tiriti is honoured and we are united underneath a korowai of manaaki and aroha. Te Ikahoungata is an alumnus of DSA.

Illish Thomas is presenting a solo exhibition, Ghost Hiikoi 2. A dreamy installation that brings the wairua of Angus Tahere-Hayes into the gallery. Grief, friendship and connection are uplifted, as a blurred recollection of 2020 archival footage from Tahere-Hayes' instagram greets Thomas' 2026 responses.

Opening day - Saturday 20th June 11am.

Simon Ingram: Painting toward latent space

A talk about the different ways I have worked with data and machines as a subject for painting: starting with the self-steering logics of the Automata Paintings (2004-2007), moving to a discussion of the Painting Assemblages (2004-2014), then the Radio Paintings (2011-2020), before summing up with work made since 2018 which engages painting’s histories with machine learning as a way to think through its present.

Simon Ingram is based in Tāmaki Makaurau and has been exhibiting for 32 years. He has exhibited widely, including in shows at PS1MoMA, ZKM Centre for Art and Media, Frankfurter Kunstverein and Auckland Art Gallery Toi o Tāmaki, and is represented by Gow Langsford Gallery.
