Last week was National NetSafety Week. A small number of educators around the country were nominated and acknowledged for their approach to leading cybersafety in their schools. Congratulations to Assistant Principal, Rachel Mortimer, on being selected as one of the Netsafe Champions last week. We are certainly fortunate to have Rachel leading this work at Trinity with our Catholic special character at the core of decision making.

šŸ† Community Champion of the Day: Rachel Mortimer

We're proud to recognise Rachel Mortimer from Trinity Catholic College as the final Netsafety Week Community Champion for 2026.

Rachel is passionate about helping young people navigate the digital world safely and confidently. She leads digital safety initiatives at Trinity Catholic College, supports students and whānau through parent education evenings, and promotes a values-based approach that encourages young people to make safe, informed choices online.

By balancing guidance with trust and respect, Rachel empowers students to develop the skills, confidence and judgement they need to navigate both the online and offline world. Whether educating families, supporting school events or responding to online safety concerns, she is committed to creating a positive and safe digital culture for her school community.

Reflecting on the recognition, Rachel shared:

"I feel very honoured to be recognised as a Community Champion in my community. The real win for me is seeing our rangatahi and whānau at Trinity Catholic College grow in confidence and knowledge as they navigate the digital world. We support students in applying our core school values equally across both their online spaces and in-person relationships. Encouraging open, honest dialogue ensures technology remains a positive, safe tool for our whole school community. Thank you to Netsafe for supporting our ongoing work to protect and empower our youth."
