Hey Everyone, with the Elections for the 2026 COMSA Executive coming up shortly. Here is a refresher on our current Executive for this year, along with a brief description of each role.

President:
The President is responsible for leading COMSA and guiding its overall direction. They oversee the Executive, ensuring the team works effectively together and that events and initiatives run smoothly. The role involves communicating with sponsors, other student clubs, and members of the University, as well as strengthening relationships with key partners the Executive may work with. The President also originates ideas for future events and opportunities, supports collaboration across the committee, and represents COMSA as a professional, approachable voice for the commerce student community.
Vice President:
The Vice President supports the smooth running and growth of COMSA, working closely with the President and Executive. They help coordinate administration, encourage communication within the team, and build connections with other clubs and sponsors. From case competitions to social functions, the Vice President promotes cohesion and active participation across the Otago Commerce student body, ensuring events run efficiently and inclusively.
Secretary:
Being the secretary of the COMSA is about taking responsibility for keeping accurate records, and managing official communications. The role is central to ensuring smooth coordination within the executive team and maintaining clear connections between members, students, and external partners.
Treasurer:
The Treasurer is responsible for managing the finances for all of the society, which involves our events, competitions and everything else in between. It is a rewarding role in which the treasurer gain vital experience preparing financial statements as well as real-life management accounting
Marketing Executive:
Marketing is the voice of COMSA. As a Marketing Executive, you’ll manage our social media, advertising, and communications - sharing event updates, useful commerce-related content, and posts from our sponsors. With two Marketing Execs on the team, it’s a creative and collaborative role where teamwork makes the job even more fun!
Competitions Rep:
The Competitions Rep helps create opportunities for students to put their skills into practice through real-world business challenges. They assist in organising flagship events such as the University of Otago Case Competition and lead initiatives like the PwC Case Competition in Semester 2. By supporting and inspiring participants, they foster creativity, teamwork, and problem-solving within COMSA.
Education and Welfare Rep:
The Welfare & Education Rep supports the well-being and academic success of COMSA members. They help organise and run events, provide a friendly point of contact for student support, and contribute to the smooth running of the club. From assisting the executive with admin to hosting socials like the Semester 1 Pub Quiz, they work to create an inclusive and engaging environment for all members.
Social rep:
As the COMSA Social Rep you will be organising the majority of the social events for the COMSA’s members. The two main events that need to be organised every year are the ball and the wine and cheese. You are also free to organise any other social events you wish. Other duties include general aid to other exec members in their roles when needed. You will be working very closely with the marketing reps as well to push for these events.
Sports rep:
The Sports Rep brings energy and connection to COMSA by organising sports events for members and collaborating with other commerce clubs across the University. They coordinate tournaments, social games, and interclub competitions. By making sport accessible for all students in COMSA, the Sports Rep helps strengthen relationships within COMSA.
International Rep:
Join COMSA as an International Executive to connect global students, learn from MBA and PhD candidates. Be the voice for international students, plan events, grow professional networks, and create a welcoming campus community.

Don't forget, our 2025 COMSA Ball is happening this Thursday at Joe's Garage. Tickets are only $25, which includes a free drink and catering. Tickets are available on the website.
