University of Waikato research is taking a closer look at methods that speed up natural processes to remove carbon dioxide from the atmosphere. While approaches like enhanced weathering and ocean alkalinity enhancement show promise, the reality is more complex.

Some of the captured carbon may not stay stored long-term, meaning the overall impact could be smaller than expected. Understanding what happens beyond the initial capture, across rivers, soils and oceans, is key.

As these technologies grow, making sure they genuinely help reduce climate change is critical.

AI is no longer just supporting work behind the scenes. It’s starting to take a more active role.

Agentic AI systems can now plan, decide, and act within organisations. That shift has real implications for how decisions are made, how productivity is lifted, and how value is created. It also raises important questions around governance, accountability, and what effective leadership looks like in this space.

These are the kinds of conversations being explored through Leading with AI: The Strategy Roadmap, a four-month executive masterclass delivered by Waikato Management School. The programme brings together academic insight and industry experience to help leaders navigate what’s next.

Registrations are closing 08 June, so find out more and register today – link in comments. ⬇️
