Work Placements - University of Waikato The Work Placements team work in the Science and Engineering Faculty.

Work placements are part of the Bachelor of Engineering and Bachelor of Science (Technology) at the University of Waikato
Te Wānanga Pūtaiao Division of Health, Engineering, Computing & Science We work with students on BE(Hons) and BSc(Tech) Degrees who have to complete work placements for part of their degrees. It is an opportunity for our students to gain relevant paid work experience with their

academic learning. We have a specialist team of Placement Coordinators who work with local and the wider community to help our student’s transition from the lecture theatres and labs into their chosen industry. Our students find summer internships in the following subjects:

Geosciences is a specialist Geotechnical Consultancy with offices in New Zealand and Australia, focusing on the Construction, Infrastructure, Land Development, Resource and Mining sectors. We are a mid-sized, privately owned, consultancy delivering excellent geotechnical services based on strong personal working relationships and a focus on work/life balance.

Due to increased demand from our clients in Auckland, we are looking for a new team member to join our South Auckland office.

Successful candidates will have recently graduated with a degree in Civil Engineering or Engineering Geology. You will need to be self-motivated with a focus on results.

This position will suit a Geotechnical Engineer/Engineering Geologist who does not want to be locked in an office and chained to a desk. The work will include a combination of office-based drafting/design and reporting plus site work. Fieldwork duties will include some hand-based investigation techniques which will require a fit and enthusiastic candidate.

Our goal at the School of Engineering is to prepare our students for employment by the time they graduate. As a Waikato BE(hons) student, you will complete 800 hours of work placement during your degree, with many of our students securing permanent jobs as a result.

We have a dedicated Work Integrated Learning (WIL) team that connects you with industry, helps you create a CV and cover letter, finds the perfect placement and supports you during it. No other university in New Zealand provides such comprehensive assistance.

You will typically complete three months of work placements between November and February at the end of your second and third year of the degree. This allows you to gain essential work experience in an engineering business while also helping inform you about the key decision of where to start your career.

The opportunity
We are looking for a Graduate Mechanical Engineer to continue to grow and shape the success of our Building Services team in Auckland. Design of HVAC (Heating, Ventilation & Air-Conditioning) within buildings:
o to achieve code required ventilation,
o providing comfortable conditions to building occupants,
o …with energy efficient solutions
Hydraulics and Fire Protection design
Designing with BIM software – 3D design of building services
Attendance at design and site meetings
Inspecting mechanical building services through and at completion of construction
The type and scale of buildings we work on are diverse and vast from retail fitouts to 5 star Green Star offices to University buildings to healthcare facilities and infrastructure and being national and international these could be anywhere from Auckland to Singapore and anywhere in the middle!



About you
You will be completing or have recently completed a Bachelor of Engineering (or above) specialising in Mechanical Engineering.
