When you graduate from the University of Waikato you join a special worldwide group of people: Waikato Alumni. Waikato alumni do amazing things: they are corporate executives, agents of innovation and change, entertainers, teachers, artists, lawyers, government officials, filmmakers, authors...and so much more. If we have your contact details, we'll get in touch with you after you graduate to wish

you all the best. The Alumni Office makes it easy to network and connect with events and alumni reps around the world, regular e-newsletters, and the annual alumni magazine Off Campus. Later on, you might choose to share your knowledge and expertise with the next generation of Waikato students.

The University of Waikato is mourning the passing of Tā Tamati Reedy, a pioneering Māori academic and the University’s first Pro Vice-Chancellor Māori.

A respected Ngāti Porou leader, his work helped embed te reo Māori, tikanga and Māori education across the University and Aotearoa. From shaping Māori and Pacific Development studies to contributing to the Māori Language Act 1987, his legacy has had a lasting impact on education and language revitalisation.

He passed away aged 89, just weeks after his wife, Lady Tilly Reedy.

Last week, we welcomed more than 2,500 new graduates into our alumni community. But what does it really mean to graduate from Waikato? And what does being part of an alumni community look like?

We asked some of our alumni to share their stories, offering their perspectives on life after Waikato and what staying connected means to them.

Thank you Bella, Craig, Paula, Holly, Damon, Richard and Seamus.

The University of Waikato community acknowledges the passing of former staff member Dr Malcolm Stanely Jones (Stan).

Dr Jones worked at the University as a Senior Lecturer in several departments including European and Hispanic Studies, German, and Screen and Media Studies during 1978-2014.

Our thoughts are with Stan’s family and former colleagues.

The University of Waikato - Tauranga is proud to host Distinguished Alumni Awardee and Peace Advocate, Alyn Ware for a special Public Lecture.

At a time when the Doomsday Clock sits at just 85 seconds to midnight, the risks of nuclear war, climate crisis, and global conflict feel more immediate than ever. Yet history reminds us that even in turbulent times, progress toward peace is possible.

Marking 125 years since the first Nobel Peace Prize, Alyn will explore how middle-power countries like New Zealand can help defend the United Nations, strengthen international law, prevent war, and promote a just and lasting peace.

Drawing on his global experience and leadership in initiatives such as LAW not War, this public lecture will offer insight, inspiration, and practical pathways for action in today’s challenging world.

Join us for this timely and important conversation, with a Waikato alumnus who is making his mark on the world.

It was a great chance to reconnect, meet new faces, and continue building the University of Waikato’s presence and networks offshore.
