Exciting news! The Young Enterprise Trust Entrepreneurs in Action competition took place a couple of weeks ago, and it was truly an incredible experience. 🚀

Sixty brilliant high school students from all over Aotearoa gathered to showcase their entrepreneurial skills, and let me tell you, they were absolute powerhouses! These challenges were no joke - they were tasks that even adults would find challenging. 💡💼

Our very own Massey University had the privilege of hosting this event on campus, and we couldn't be prouder of our students and their accomplishments. 🎉 A big shoutout to Libie Nyugen, one of our talented stage 2 Communications students, who dedicated her time and expertise as a mentor throughout the weekend. Her energy and support were simply outstanding! 👏

Although our team didn't take home the top prize this time, it was an unforgettable and action-packed weekend for everyone involved. We learned so much, indulged in a few too many lollies (oops!), and made wonderful new friends along the way. 🍬🤝

Hosting this event was an excellent opportunity for Massey University to raise its profile among high schools and awarding every EIA participant a $1000 scholarship. We hope to inspire and attract some exceptional new students who share our passion for entrepreneurship and innovation. 🎓✨

A huge congratulations to all who attended the event, including Massey University CJM - Te Pou Aro Kōrero Digital Marketing Lecturer Phoebe Fletcher, students, participants, winners, and everyone who made this event possible. 🙌 Your hard work, dedication, and entrepreneurial spirit are truly inspiring. We can't wait to see what the future holds for each and every one of you! 🌟💼

Massey University CJM - Te Pou Aro Kōrero congratulates Dr Mal Green who has completed his PhD at Massey University

Dr Green's thesis thesis explored what cultural inclusivity might look like and how it might cultivate and nurture authentic and effective experiences of inclusion for cultural minorities.

Read More about Dr Mal Green's doctoral journey here: https://www.massey.ac.nz/about/news/celebrating-staff-success-at-auckland-graduation/

At “retirement age”, Dr Mal Green has completed his PhD in efforts to help prevent boredom and try something new in his later years.

“I have been a lifelong learner and explorer of ideas but thought my Head of School was joking when he suggested I do a PhD in communication in 2017. But here I am, finally completing one on my third attempt. My lifelong involvement in intercultural community work started as a teenager and has given me a love of researching, teaching and making a difference in the lives of people, communities and society.”

Dr Green’s thesis explored what cultural inclusivity might look like and how it might cultivate and nurture authentic and effective experiences of inclusion for cultural minorities.

"It was frustration that led me to this research after 45 years of observing unsatisfactory experiences of cultural inclusion. My findings identified four factors that all need to be present for cultural inclusivity to be perceived – including, accepting, caring and respecting culture.”

Dr Green began his journey with Massey as a relief tutor in 2016 before being appointed a senior tutor in the School of Communication, Journalism and Marketing in 2017. His tertiary journey prior saw him complete a Bachelor of Arts in English and History in 1972, followed by a Master of Arts in History in 1974 and a Bachelor of Divinity in Theology in 1986.

Since 2017, Dr Green has been an assistant lecturer, a PhD student and more recently, a Kaiārahi Tiriti (Tiriti Mentor). He delivers communication courses at undergraduate and postgraduate levels, while supporting colleagues in honouring the university’s commitment to being Tiriti-led.

The findings from Dr Green’s research will be used to help organisations cultivate cultural inclusivity through applying various approaches to increase the possibility that cultural minority members might experience authentic inclusion.

With his PhD studies now complete, Dr Green still has plenty to keep him busy.

“Outside of focusing on my health after receiving a cancer diagnosis in January, I am working on making the learning experiences I deliver more engaging and relevant for students so they achieve their study goals. I am also developing three papers for publication while preparing to give two presentations on my thesis at an international conference in July.”

On Monday, 8 May, students from the Current Affairs Journalism class visited Parliament and the post-Cabinet press conference with Senior Tutor in Communication and Public Relations, Massey University CJM - Te Pou Aro Kōrero, Massey University Dr. Teresa Heinz Housel.

They were in for a big surprise. Prime Minister, Chris Hipkins had been in the UK for King Charles' coronation and although news reports over the weekend stated that the PM intended to return in time for the post-Cabinet press conference, the students were still very impressed when he walked into the theatrette!

The PM announced the budget boost to the NZDF but after journalists' questions, matters quickly shifted to Meka Whaitiri, Elizabeth Kerekere, the kakahu that Hipkins wore at the coronation, his meeting with King Charles, and, of course, sausage rolls.

An experience to remember!
