Last week, we had the privilege of exhibiting for another year at the NZ Careers Expo here in Palmerston North. Furthermore, this year we decided to hit the road and visit other cities including beautiful Whanganui and sunny Napier.

Once again we had a great mix of students and staff, both working together to showcase what IPU New Zealand is all about. From all the study opportunities that we offer, through to our unique multicultural environment, many people stopped by to chat and ask questions regarding our courses, scholarships, and our upcoming Campus Open Day happening this June.

Our road trip isn't over yet, though! We are heading to Auckland next, followed by Wellington for the upcoming Careers Expos. So if you're in the area, please pop in to say hello—we'd love to meet you! 👋✨

The past year has been a special one for IPU NZ student Kosuke Tanigawa. After arriving on our shores from IPU Japan in July 2025 for our one-year exchange programme, Kosuke quickly adapted to New Zealand life—making friends and joining sports activities, including the IPU Pickleball Club and the Ethkick Football Tournament, to name a few.

To add to his extracurricular activities, back in April at the start of NZ’s hockey season, Kosuke trialed out for High School Hockey Club and was chosen for the Men’s A team (top division)—no small feat by any means!

From the get-go, Kosuke was quickly welcomed by his fellow teammates, getting stuck in with significant game-time and making valuable contributions to the long-standing club. This was also solidified with a well-deserved MVP award after their hard-fought win against Massey Premier Men's, earlier in the season.

His impressive year was also acknowledged by Palmerston North City Mayor Grant Smith, as seen in this special personal meet-and-greet photo at the Palmerston North City Council last Wednesday.

Furthermore, the HSHC Men's A team is doing very well this year and going from strength to strength. We are only halfway through the main season, and their team is currently holding a fantastic 2nd place on the Manawatū Club ladder.

Kosuke and the boys are back in action this Saturday at 12 noon at the Hockey Manawatū Twin Turfs. Let’s go cheer them on for this weekend's clash and keep the momentum rolling for the rest of the season. Hope to see you there! 🏑🇳🇿

Due to a busy mid-semester schedule for most of our students, last Wednesday’s Tiki Tour group was a small one. However, this did not spoil the adventure by any means!

With some of these master’s students living off campus, they mentioned that trips to these locations are rare. As such, they thoroughly enjoyed the local Manawatū Gorge and Tawa Loop Track. As you can tell from the photos, it was the perfect day for some fresh air, exercise, and good company outside of their daily responsibilities.

If you are an IPU student (or staff member) and would like to join the next Tiki Tour, keep an eye on your inbox for details about our next outing.

Last Monday morning, we held a flag-raising ceremony here on campus to celebrate a new yearly event on our calendar called ‘Foundation Day’.

Fresh off the back of our 35th anniversary last year, ‘Foundation Day’ is keeping the celebrations alive with an annual dedication to our monumental, yet humble beginnings.

What started as a simple idea from our Library & Student Support staff grew into something bigger, with additional contributions from the IPU Student Committee plus many other departments to make this a full-campus collaboration.

The idea was to include nostalgic photo exhibits at various locations throughout our campus to celebrate our former staff, students, and graduates who have blessed us with their presence, and to look back on our colourful history plus all the changes (including fashion!) since 1990.

The flag-raising ceremony itself was an intimate and relaxed occasion, with opening words from Dr. Joe Darun (Academic Director) and Mr. Yoshi Tomonaga (Director-General of IPU NZ). IPU Student Committee members Imogen Dombroski and Quynh Anh Nguyen also spoke, explaining the exhibits and activities on display around campus.

After the special IPU NZ flag was raised to the applause of all attendees, we completed the ceremony with a group photo to mark the occasion—the first of many more to come.

Today, IPU New Zealand proudly stands together for Pink Shirt Day Aotearoa 💗

Across our campus, students and staff wore pink to show our commitment to kindness, inclusion, and respect, and to stand up against bullying in all its forms.

Pink Shirt Day is more than just wearing a colour—it’s about creating a culture where everyone feels safe, valued, seen, and supported. At IPU, we believe every member of our community deserves to belong.🫶

Together, we can help build a world where bullying has no place, whether on campus, online, or in our communities.

Ngā mihi to everyone who joined us today and helped spread the message that kindness counts.

A huge, heartfelt thank you to our superb Dining Hall staff for baking us some delicious, traditional Anzac biscuits to enjoy! And a big thanks to Jeini for agreeing to showcase these treats for us on our socials!

While we enjoy these treats, we also pause to acknowledge the significance of Anzac Day. It is a time for reflection and gratitude as we honour the courage of those who served and sacrificed for the freedoms we enjoy to this day.

Lest we forget.🥀
