Hello, this is Amy from Auckland, a third-year B.HortSci student and the Marketing Manager for the Society this year.

Our field has the power to shape the way we grow, produce, and think about food in a changing world. I’m excited to be part of the society and to help visually capture and share the incredible possibilities within the horticulture sector!

Hi I’m Luke from Tauranga in the Bay of Plenty. I am a second year Hort student majoring in Plant Production and this year I am the Massey Horticulture Society Greenhouse Manager.

Last summer I worked with Southern Cross Horticulture on SunGold and RubyRed orchards across the Bay of Plenty.

I’m looking for students keen to help out and take part in growing plants in the society’s greenhouse.

Hello, my name is Sam from Tauranga and I’m a third year student currently studying a Bachelor of Horticultural Science at Massey University. I am fulfilling the role as treasurer for the Hort Society in 2026

I come from the Bay of Plenty and did my first placement on the family business, Taylor Strawberry Nurseries. For my most recent practicum I worked on a kiwifruit orchard doing tasks such as thinning, girdling, and pruning.

I look forward to meeting and interacting with you throughout the rest of the year.

Hi, I’m Thomas Hughes, your Secretary for 2026. Iā€˜m an international student from Argentina, currently in my second year studying Agribusiness at Massey.

I have an eclectic background that led me to develop a deep connection to nature and farming.

I joined the Hort Society because I believe it’s a place where students can truly flourish — building knowledge and real industry connections. Iā€˜m looking forward to being part of what we achieve together this year.

Hi, I’m Lucy from Tauranga, your vice president for 2026.

I grew up surrounded by the kiwifruit industry, which inspired me to study a Horticulture Production major, following in my parents’ footsteps.

I’m currently in my second year and hope to become a horticulture consultant in the future. I’m excited to see what the committee achieves this year and to be part of the society.

Hi my name is Kate from Tauranga, I am a third year horticulture science student, and am excited to be the Massey Horticulture Society President for 2026.

For the second summer in a row I spent my practicum at Start Afresh doing research and development. I was assigned three projects with kiwifruit as the core focus for each of them and spent a lot of time on orchards carrying out investigative work.

I look forward to meeting you all at future events!
