We recently had the launch of our Freeride Level One Certification. After a lengthy development process, working alongside athletes, coaches, judges and NZSIA trainers, it was great to finally see it come to life on snow.

As a freeride examiner, Sam Lee and other industry experts with backgrounds across competitive freeride, coaching, judging, alpine racing and instructor education shaped this course. Their feedback helped refine both the assessment criteria and the direction of the certification.

Interested in joining Interski 2027 as a delegate in Vail, USA? Interski is a week of on-snow demonstrations, workshops, indoor lectures and plenty of informal conversations on the chairlift. Member nations share how they teach, what they’re researching and where they see snowsports education heading. It’s a rare chance to watch the world’s best demo teams up close, compare notes with trainers and instructors from dozens of countries, and bring fresh ideas home to your own teaching and to our wider membership.

Delegates must register through their national organisation (NZSIA) and will be expected to cover their own travel, accommodation and logistics, and to meet professional conduct requirements.

Expressions of interest are now open and they close on October 1st.

Learning a new skill is tough and it is inevitable errors will be made. However, there is no need to worry as making errors is a crucial part of the practice process. Have a look at the Building Skill chapter in the NZSIA manual in Section B to learn about Open & Closed Loop Learning.
