Last night was the Bell Gully Open Moot Final! We saw two incredible teams: Maja Hassell and Aston Dow, and Theo Dawson and George Patrick make their submissions to our panel of judges. This consisted of Justice Kós, Graeme Austin and Julian Brown. After a close competition, Theo and George took the win.

The Thomas Mooting Prize for Best Speaker was also awarded to George Patrick as the Winner, and Theo Dawson as the Runner Up.

Congratulations to all four competitors, you all put many hours into this moot. You did a very good job and should be proud of yourselves.
A big thank you to our judges for taking the time to make this competition happen and to for sponsoring this successful event!

❤️LexisNexis x Paper Presentations❤️

Congratulations to Isla Clarkson for taking home the win! 🎉 The presentation unpeeled the legally and technically dense topic of digital currency and clarifying the debate of classifying cryptocurrency at common law in NZ.

And well done to runner-up Francesca Grove-Sigal for the valuable insights into Treaty principles and how RMA Reforms reflect the proceduralisation of indigenous rights.

Both fascinating and beautifully articulated presentations that left a feast for thought 💭🍴

A final thank you to our Judges: Samantha, Sameer, and Simon for their time and thoughtful questions that appreciated the depth of the passion and effort of the competitors. And, of course, to Lexis Nexis for sponsoring the competition.

Last night was the IPLS Senior Client Interviewing Final.

Congratulations to Patrick O’Rourke and Sam Marsh for taking first place. They will now be representing VUWLSS in the NZLSA National Conference in Wellington in August this year!

Another congratulations is owed to Aria Rose and George Pinder for also making it to the final. The performance of both teams was very impressive. Both used their legal and soft skills very well.

Finally, a big thank you to Michelle Hall-Collins and Kellee Candy for judging the finals. Their experience and understanding of Client Interviews made them kind and effective judges. Thank you as well to for their sponsorship. This competition would not have been successful without everyone’s support.

Recently, Inde Henderson and Vincent Thomas travelled to Croatia to represent Te Herenga Waka and Aotearoa New Zealand at the 2026 Brown Mosten International Client Consultation Competition 🌏⚖️

After winning the IPLS Senior Client Interviewing competition at the New Zealand Law Students’ Association Competition in Auckland last year, they earned the opportunity to represent New Zealand on the world stage.

From 15-18 April, they competed against 18 universities from around the globe. We are proud to share that they advanced to the semi-finals, where they were defeated by Canada, who finished 2nd overall, placing New Zealand in the top 4-9 globally. Their dedication and commitment to the competition were outstanding.

We would also like to extend our sincere thanks to those who generously supported their journey to Croatia. This opportunity would not have been possible without you. In particular, we acknowledge: NZ Law Foundation, Kate Shepard Chambers, Victoria University of Wellington – Law Faculty, Petra Butler, and Fayez Shahbaz.

Congratulations, Inde and Vincent. You should be incredibly proud of everything you have achieved. Well done!!
