❗Formación de biopelículas y mortalidad en pacientes oncológicos con candidemia ❗
🔬 🦠Compartimos con ustedes la reciente publicación de Freddy Villanueva con aportes de W***y Lescano, jefe de Emerge Upch, titulada “Biofilm formation and increased mortality among cancer patients with candidemia in a Peruvian reference center”.
📊El estudio en pacientes oncológicos con candidemia encontró que los pacientes infectados con cepas de Candida spp. con altos niveles de formación de biopelículas in vitro presentaron más mortalidad frente a pacientes infectados con cepas que no formaban biopelículas . Esta asociación se observó tanto en pacientes que no recibieron tratamiento antimicrobiano ni antifúngico, como en aquellos que sí recibieron al menos uno de estos tratamientos.
🔬 Este estudio ayuda a caracterizar mejor el impacto de las infecciones por Candida spp. en pacientes inmunocomprometidos y subraya la importancia de más investigación y una intervención temprana y específica en los pacientes infectados con cepas que forman biopelículas.

🔬🦠 We are pleased to share a recent publication by Freddy Villanueva, with contributions from W***y Lescano, head of EmergeUpch, entitled “Biofilm formation and increased mortality among cancer patients with candidemia in a Peruvian reference center”
📊 The study on cancer patients with candidemia found that people infected with Candida spp. strains that present high levels of in vitro biofilm formation had higher mortality compared to patients infected with non biofilm forming strains. This association was observed both in patients who did not receive antimicrobial or antifungal treatment, as well as those who received at least one of these treatments.
🔬 This study helps to better characterize the impact of Candida spp. infections in immunocompromised patients and underlines the importance of further research and early targeted therapy among patients infected with biofilm forming strains.
