May 7, 2026, the 4th-year Bachelor of Science in Fisheries and Aquatic Sciences (BSFAS) students successfully conducted an extension training seminar titled "Post Harvest Skills of Coastal Communities through Extension Training in Milkfish Deboning" at the DA Hall, Camagong.

The event, held as part of their Fisheries Extension course, brought together participants from 4K Camagong for a hands-on learning experience on deboning.

A huge thank you to our guest speaker, Mr. Jeric Villaruel from the Office of the Municipal Agriculture, for sharing his expertise

And we would like to extend our deepest gratitude to the DA Office, headed by Mr. Franklin Gerard Belazon, for their generous support and for providing the venue for this activity.

PHOTO HIGHLIGHTS | Training on Fish Processing and Food Safety

Isinagawa ng mga 4th year BS Fisheries and Aquatic Sciences ng SLSU Alabat Campus ang kanilang makabuluhang Undergraduate Seminarโ€”isang esensyal na requirement sa kanilang kurso.

The GIS Training conducted in partnership with the LGU of Gumaca showcased the power of geospatial technology in strengthening local planning, environmental management, and community resilience. Led by Doc. Jobert G. Lomboy together with the five selected BSFAS-III students, the activity became more than a simple workshopโ€”it was a meaningful collaboration dedicated to building the technical capacity of our local government.

With the active involvement of various LGU departments, the training served as a shared commitment to promote data-driven governance and improve the accuracy of maps, analysis, and decision-making within the municipality. This initiative plays a vital role in supporting disaster preparedness, resource management, and sustainable development for the people of Gumaca.

We extend our heartfelt appreciation to the following LGU departments for their participation, cooperation, and eagerness to learn:

โ€ข Municipal Planning and Development Office (MPDO)
โ€ข Agriculture Office
โ€ข Municipal Environment and Natural Resources Office (MENRO)
โ€ข Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (MDRRMO)
โ€ข Engineering Office
โ€ข Assessorโ€™s Office
โ€ข Tourism Office
โ€ข Health Office
โ€ข Social Welfare and Development Office (MSWDO)
โ€ข Barangay Representatives
โ€ข And other participating units who contributed to the success of this initiative

Your dedication made the training productive, purposeful, and truly impactful.

Together, we continue to move toward a more informed, empowered, and future-ready Gumaca. ๐ŸŒ๐Ÿ—บ๏ธ

๐ŸŒฟ Mangrove Assessment Activity ๐ŸŒŠ

On November 13, 2025, the 4th Year BS Fisheries and Aquatic Sciences students conducted a Mangrove Assessment at Brgy. Balungay, Alabat, Quezon as part of their Fisheries Management Course. ๐Ÿง‘โ€๐Ÿ”ฌ๐ŸŒฑ

During the activity, students recorded mangrove locations, species zones, conditions, and identified environmental pressures, they also established vegetation plots to measure tree height, diameter, community structure, and seedling density.

Mangroves play a crucial role in maintaining healthy coastal ecosystemsโ€”they provide habitats and nursery grounds for fish and other marine species, protect shorelines from erosion and storm surges, store carbon, and enhance biodiversity. ๐Ÿ’š
