𝗣𝗡𝗨 𝗰𝗼𝗻𝘁𝗶𝗻𝘂𝗲𝘀 𝘁𝗼 𝗦𝗼𝗮𝗿 𝗶𝗻 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗨𝗜 𝗚𝗿𝗲𝗲𝗻𝗠𝗲𝘁𝗿𝗶𝗰 𝗪𝗼𝗿𝗹𝗱 𝗨𝗻𝗶𝘃𝗲𝗿𝘀𝗶𝘁𝘆 𝗥𝗮𝗻𝗸𝗶𝗻𝗴𝘀 𝟮𝟬𝟮𝟲

After an impressive debut last year, securing the 1,050th spot globally, PNU continues to elevate its standing in the UI GreenMetric World University Rankings. In its sophomore outing, the National Center for Teacher Education broke into the top 1,000, claiming the 904th spot among the 2,016 participating universities worldwide.

The university also climbed the regional and local ranks, now sitting in 529th place among Asian universities and rising to 51st place among Philippine institutions.

The Linkages and International Office (LIO) coordinated the collection, consolidation, and submission of data for the UI GreenMetric assessment. This undertaking was a collective institutional effort, involving the submission and validation of sustainability-related data from PNU’s five campuses: Manila, North Luzon, South Luzon, Visayas, and Mindanao. The successful submission reflects the cooperation of various offices, units, faculty members, personnel, and other stakeholders who contributed data and supporting documents for the assessment.

The said ranking evaluates universities based on key sustainability areas, including Setting and Infrastructure, Energy and Climate Change, Waste, Water, Transportation, Education, and Governance and Digitalization. These areas examine not only physical campus infrastructure and environmental management but also the integration of sustainability into education, institutional policies, governance, and university-wide practices.

The UI GreenMetric Rankings evaluate the environmental commitments and initiatives of universities worldwide using 60 indicators across seven criteria. Driven by this year’s theme, “Advancing Sustainable Campuses through Governance, Digitalization, and Integrated Performance,” the program continues to unite universities globally in building a sustainable future.

ALICIA, Isabela — Philippine Normal University North Luzon (PNU North Luzon) hosted two regional initiatives on health research and health science education, which opened simultaneously at the University’s InnoHub Building on September 17.

The Training on Data Analytics and Data Presentation for Health Research and BUKLOD KALUSUGAN: SAMA-SAMA R2 Regional Seminar on Advancing Health Science Education opened through a joint plenary session on the fourth floor of the InnoHub Building, providing participants of both programs a common platform for discussions on strengthening research and health science education in the region.

The Department of Science and Technology (DOST) Region 02 (Cagayan Valley), through the Cagayan Valley Health Research and Development Consortium (CVHRDC), spearheaded the activities in collaboration with the Commission on Higher Education (CHED) Region II and PNU North Luzon.

The morning plenary featured technical discussions relevant to the conduct and use of health research. Dr. Julius T. Capili, RMT, MPH, PhD, DDM, Executive Director of CVHRDC and University Dean of the Graduate School at Cagayan State University, led the session on Research Data Tools for Health Research.

This was followed by an introduction to data analytics facilitated by Ms. Imelda A. Agorto of St. Paul University Philippines, who discussed the data analytics workflow, types of data, data cleaning and preparation, and data quality assurance.

After the joint morning sessions, participants separated into their respective program tracks in the afternoon.

The Data Analytics and Data Presentation for Health Research participants remained on the fourth floor of the InnoHub Building for the continuation of their technical training, while participants of BUKLOD KALUSUGAN: SAMA-SAMA R2 proceeded to the third-floor Indigenous Peoples Education Museum for their specialized sessions on advancing health science education, with PNU North Luzon’s Dr. Marie Grace S. Cabansag serving as one of the resource speakers.

For the data analytics track, Dr. Jesus B. Pizarro of St. Paul University Philippines led the afternoon session on Exploratory Data Analysis and Descriptive Statistics, covering frequency distributions, measures of central tendency and variability, and basic data interpretation.

Participants then moved from discussion to application through a hands-on exercise on data cleaning, descriptive analysis, and interpretation, facilitated by Dr. Pizarro and Ms. Agorto. The first day of the training concluded with the presentation of outputs and an open forum, allowing participants to discuss their analyses and receive feedback from the facilitators.

While Buklod Kalusugan: Sama-Sama R2 ran for one day, the data analytics training continued on September 18 with sessions designed to strengthen participants’ ability to transform research findings into clear, accurate, and publication-ready presentations.

The second day featured discussions on the principles of effective data presentation, including the presentation of quantitative and qualitative data, selection of appropriate tables and graphs, and best practices in communicating research results.

A separate session on data visualization also exposed participants to the appropriate use of bar charts, line graphs, pie charts, histograms, and scatter plots, as well as the preparation of figures and tables for research dissemination.

The training culminated in a workshop where participants analyzed a dataset and developed tables, charts, and key findings. Their outputs then underwent presentation and critiquing before an open forum, feedback session, and awarding of certificates.

By holding the two programs alongside each other, the partner institutions provided a shared space for professionals working across health research and education to engage with complementary areas of knowledge while pursuing specialized learning through separate program tracks.

The collaboration among DOST Region Cagayan Valley, CVHRDC, CHED Region II, and PNU North Luzon likewise reinforces continuing regional efforts to strengthen both the generation of credible research evidence and its meaningful use in education, professional practice, and decision-making.

Philippine Normal University North Luzon strengthened its engagement in gender-responsive research as Dr. Raquel R. Geronimo and Ms. Audrey M. Cortez participated in the Regional Seminar-Training on Gender Research held on September 9–10, 2026, at the Claude Andrews Convention Center, Cagayan State University–Andrews Campus, Tuguegarao City.

Organized by the Regional Gender and Development Committee–Region II (RGAD Committee-II) through the Regional Gender and Development–Research and Learning Center (RGAD-RLC), the two-day training brought together faculty researchers, government representatives, administrative staff, GAD focal persons, and community partners from across Region II.

The seminar-training focused on strengthening participants’ capacity to design and conduct gender-responsive research. Sessions covered gender concepts and frameworks, research design and methodology, data collection and analysis, translating research into policy and advocacy, and writing and publishing gender-responsive research.

As part of the training, participants engaged in workshops on developing research questions and working titles and drafting gender research proposals, providing opportunities to translate the discussions into potential research initiatives addressing regional gender concerns.

The participation of PNUNL in the regional initiative contributes to the University’s continuing efforts to strengthen research capacity and promote gender-responsive and evidence-based approaches in education and institutional development.

TUMAUINI, ISABELA (September 9, 2026) — As the National Center for Teacher Education (NCTE) and a designated Center of Excellence in Teacher Education, Philippine Normal University North Luzon (PNUNL) has entered into a landmark three-year strategic collaboration with HGBaquiran College (HGBC), officially launching Project PEACE (Professional Excellence and Advancement for Competent Educators) at the HGBC Campus.

Under this collaborative framework titled “Enhancing Teacher Education through Strategic Academic Programs and Institutional Collaboration,” PNUNL is extending its expertise to support HGBC in curriculum benchmarking, faculty development, joint research, and academic exchange.

Through its vision, PNUNL fulfills its mandate by partnering closely with Teacher Education Institutions (TEIs) like HGBC—actively sharing institutional best practices, building local academic capacity, and uplifting the overall quality of teacher preparation in the region.

The inaugural leg brought together educators and pre-service teachers for specialized sessions on contemporary pedagogies, classroom management, and ethics. Key workshops and insights were delivered by the PNUNL leadership delegation, including Dr. Clemente M. Aguinaldo Jr. (Dean for Academics and the Hub), Dr. Jandy S. Danzalan (Director for Research, Extension, Quality Assurance, and Development), Dr. Marites A. Balot (Associate Dean), and Dr. Nicette N. Ganal (Program Coordinator).

Highlighting the global dimension of the partnership, PNUNL also brought an international cultural exchange side event to HGBC on the same day, titled Bridging Borders. Pre-service teachers from Universitas Negeri Semarang (UNNES), Indonesia, engaged with HGBC students and faculty in a cultural sharing forum, promoting intercultural dialogue and global citizenship in teacher education.

Grounded in sustained mentorship and mutual growth, this three-year program will continuously empower HGBC to produce competent, reflective, and future-ready educators. By aligning HGBC’s regional dedication with PNUNL’s benchmark standards as a Center of Excellence, the initiative exemplifies how transforms teacher education through strategic institutional partnership.
