The CSU Department of Geodetic Engineering actively participated in the 1st Mindanao-Area Geodetic Engineering Congress (MAGEC 2026) organized by the Mindanao Association of Geodetic Engineering Students (MAGES), held on February 23โ€“25, 2026, at the University of Science and Technology of Southern Philippines โ€“ Cagayan de Oro Campus in Cagayan de Oro. Anchored on the theme โ€œThe First Bearing: Mapping Mindanaoโ€™s Next Generation of Surveyors,โ€ the historic three-day gathering served as an important platform for collaboration, knowledge exchange, and professional engagement among geodetic engineering students and institutions across Mindanao. More importantly, the event became a meaningful avenue for strengthening the Mindanao-wide network of Geodetic Engineering students, fostering unity, camaraderie, and a shared commitment toward advancing the profession in the region.

Adding to the departmentโ€™s strong presence in the congress, one of its faculty members, Engr. Arnaldo C. Gagula, served as one of the resource speakers of the event. He delivered a talk entitled โ€œExploring the Expanding Horizons of Geodetic Engineering Beyond Field Survey,โ€ where he highlighted the evolving roles of geodetic engineers in areas such as geospatial technologies, remote sensing, GIS applications, research, and emerging digital innovations. His presentation provided valuable insights to the participants, broadening their perspective on the diverse career pathways within the profession.

During the MAGEC Consortium, student leaders were also given the opportunity to present the accomplishments and initiatives of their respective organizations. Representing Caraga State University, CSUโ€“YGESS President Irish Julianne Go and CSUโ€“YM representative Daphne Gepiga presented the achievements, programs, and activities of their organizations. Their presentation emphasized the active involvement of CSUโ€™s geodetic engineering student bodies in promoting academic excellence, leadership, and professional development.

A total of 124 students from the CSU Department of Geodetic Engineering (CSU-DGE) actively participated in the various academic, technical, and recreational competitions organized during the event. Their strong performance across multiple categories highlighted the departmentโ€™s commitment to competence, teamwork, and holistic development.

In the Map Making Competition, coached by Engr. Arnaldo Gagula, the team composed of Kurt L. Pastor, Lemuel Ranque, and Christopher Filosofo emerged as Champion, demonstrating exceptional cartographic design, accuracy, and technical presentation. Another team composed of Christian Charl Lulab, Daniella Galarrita, and Sherwin Lloyd Acog secured the 1st Runner Up position, further affirming CSU-DGEโ€™s strength in thematic mapping and spatial data presentation.

For the Differential Leveling Competition, under the guidance of Engr. John Rudmark L. Ebol, the team composed of Carljune Decio, Gems Andro S. Ravelo, Reygie L. Cardeno, and Jasmine Gemao achieved 1st Runner Up, showcasing precision, coordination, and technical competence in field surveying procedures. Meanwhile, Jenibelle Rose Dizon, Jaime C. Paronda, Rucelle Cogal, and Chelsea Dave Y. Sarandunan earned the 2nd Runner Up award, demonstrating their proficiency in applying leveling techniques and ensuring measurement accuracy.

In the Total Station Set-Up Competition, coached by Engr. Maria Belinda Campana, Forem Wesley Dave Caldoza and Danny Boy Sanico represented the department and demonstrated skillful instrument handling, proper setup procedures, and operational efficiency.

The department also performed well in the Quiz Bowl, mentored by Engr. Arturo Cauba Jr. The team composed of Gems Andro S. Ravelo, Reygie L. Cardeno, and Jasmine Gemao secured 2nd Runner Up, reflecting their strong academic foundation in geodetic engineering concepts and principles. Additionally, Jenibelle Rose Dizon, Edsel O. Cinchez, and Rucelle Cogal placed 3rd Runner Up, further emphasizing the studentsโ€™ preparedness and competitive spirit.

Beyond the academic and technical contests, CSU-DGE also dominated the E-Sports competitions, showcasing teamwork, strategy, and strong coordination.

In E-Sports (Mobile Legends), coached by Engr. Arnaldo Gagula, the team composed of Ryan Khryz T. Matildo, Merk Kenneth C. Maestre, Jhoriel C. Lamson, Richmond Aniรฑon, Carl Alexander D. Bisoy, and Lester Heneral emerged as Champion, demonstrating exceptional teamwork and strategic gameplay. Another team composed of Vincent M. Calamba, Echie B. Villarin, Ronjae Erl C. Puspos, Mcnel Clement D. Barcelon, and James M. Tubo also actively participated, strengthening CSU-DGEโ€™s representation in the tournament.

In E-Sports (Call of Duty), under the support of Engr. John Rudmark L. Ebol, the team composed of Prince Lovenn Driz, Danny Boy Sanico, Duane Louis Carin, Michael Jhon Canoy, and Jhoriel C. Lamson secured the title of Champion, further solidifying CSU-DGEโ€™s dominance in the E-Sports category.

Overall, the participation of the CSU Department of Geodetic Engineering in MAGEC 2026 was marked by excellence in leadership, academic competitions, technical skills, and collaborative engagements. The event not only brought pride and recognition to the department but also strengthened professional networks and reinforced the unity of geodetic engineering students across Mindanao.
