As Batch Maharlika 2026 prepares to take the Nurse Licensure Examination (NLE) on August 29–30, 2026, the Systems Plus College Foundation – College of Nursing comes together in prayer and solidarity for a special Holy Mass and Sending-Off Program on August 25, 2026, at 5:30 PM at the Rodolfo V. Jao Function Hall.

HONORING THE LEGACY OF ANASTACIA GIRON-TUPAS
136th Birthday Anniversary | August 24, 2026

Today, we celebrate more than the birth anniversary of a remarkable woman—we honor the life, vision, and legacy of Anastacia Giron-Tupas, the Founder of the Philippine Nurses Association and a pioneer whose dedication helped lay the foundation of the nursing profession in the Philippines.

Her legacy reminds us that nursing is more than a profession—it is a commitment to service, leadership, compassion, and the betterment of the lives of others.

She envisioned a profession where Filipino nurses could stand with dignity, unity, and purpose. Through her courage to lead and her willingness to serve, she helped create an organization that continues to bring nurses together in advancing the profession and serving the community.

As we commemorate her 136th birthday, may we pause and ask ourselves:

Are we carrying forward the values she stood for?
Are we serving not only with competence, but with compassion?
Are we leading not for recognition, but for the good of the profession and the people we serve?
Are we doing our part to build a stronger nursing profession for those who will come after us?

The greatest way to honor Anastacia Giron-Tupas is not simply to remember her name, but to live the values that made her legacy enduring.

May her life continue to inspire every Filipino nurse to serve with compassion, lead with courage, stand with integrity, and uphold the dignity of our profession.

SHARING THE PHILIPPINE EXPERIENCE IN MATERNAL HEALTH CARE ON THE INTERNATIONAL STAGE

The Systems Plus College Foundation (SPCF) – College of Nursing proudly celebrates another meaningful international academic engagement as Dr. Regie A. Bautista, Dean of the College of Nursing, served as a Resource Speaker during the International Health Webinar of STIKes Bakti Utama Pati, Indonesia, held on August 22, 2026.

Dr. Bautista presented “Maternal Health Care and Practices in the Philippines,” highlighting the Philippine approach to safe motherhood through continuity of care, cultural responsiveness, interprofessional collaboration, and the provision of quality maternal health services.

His discussion explored the maternal health continuum—from preconception and antenatal care to safe delivery, postpartum care, breastfeeding, family planning, and preparation for future pregnancies—together with key Philippine programs and policies that safeguard the health and well-being of mothers and newborns.

The presentation also emphasized respectful maternity care, Filipino cultural practices and family involvement, maternal mental health, adolescent pregnancy, geographic inequalities, the Three Delays Model, emergency obstetric and newborn care, and the vital roles of nurses, midwives, barangay health workers, physicians, families, and communities in improving maternal health outcomes.

Furthermore, the discussion reinforced an important principle in maternal health care: culture must be approached with respect and understanding while ensuring that every mother receives safe, evidence-based, and culturally responsive care.

With more than 200 participants joining the international webinar, the activity provided a valuable platform for healthcare professionals, educators, and learners across borders to exchange knowledge, share experiences, and strengthen their common commitment to advancing maternal and newborn health.

The College of Nursing extends its sincere appreciation to STIKes Bakti Utama Pati, Indonesia, the organizers, moderators, fellow resource speakers, and all participants for the warm welcome and meaningful international academic exchange.

Through engagements such as this, the SPCF College of Nursing continues to bring Philippine nursing education and healthcare perspectives to the international community while fostering collaboration, knowledge sharing, and excellence in nursing practice.

The Systems Plus College Foundation – College of Nursing is honored to take part in the International Health Webinar organized by STIKES Bakti Utama Pati, Indonesia, in collaboration with Pusdiklat RS Bhina Bhakti Husada, on August 22, 2026.

We are proud to share that Dr. Regie A. Bautista, Dean of the College of Nursing, will represent the Philippines 🇵🇭 as one of the international resource speakers and will deliver a lecture on:

📚✨ SPCF COLLEGE OF NURSING AT APAME 2026

The Systems Plus College Foundation – College of Nursing proudly participates in the APAME 2026 Conference and 7th PAMJE Annual Convention, being held on August 20–21, 2026, at the Henry Sy Sr. Building, College of Medicine, University of the Philippines Manila.

Representing the College of Nursing are Prof. Remedios David and Prof. Jayson Rinos, faculty members of the College, who are attending this significant gathering of researchers, educators, journal editors, authors, and scholars from across the Asia-Pacific region.

With the theme “Publication Quality and Ethics in the AI-Age: Empowering Editorial Excellence in the Asia-Pacific,” the conference highlights timely issues surrounding research integrity, ethical use of artificial intelligence, scholarly publishing, peer review, and responsible scientific communication.

Their participation reflects the College of Nursing’s continuing commitment to strengthening its research culture, faculty development, ethical scholarship, and evidence-based nursing education. The knowledge and insights gained from this international academic gathering will contribute to further enhancing research and scholarly activities within the College.

Ngayong araw inaalala ang anibersaryo ng kamatayan ng British nurse, statistician, at social reformer na si Florence Nightingale. Si Nightingale ay itinuturing bilang founder ng modern nursing.

Isinilang si Nightingale sa Florence, Italy noong May 12, 1820. Mula sa maykayang pamilya, nagkaroon ng pagkakataon si Nightingale na mag-aral ng history, philosophy, mathematics, at languages. Natuto rin siyang magsalita ng French, German, Italian, Greek, at Latin sa murang edad. Sa edad na 16, hinikayat niya ang kaniyang mga magulang na siya ay mag-aral ng nursing, na noon ay hindi popular para sa mga kababaihan. Sa kabila ng pagtutol ng kaniyang pamilya noong una, nagtapos ng nursing training si Nightingale sa Institution of Protestant Deaconesses sa Germany noong July 1850. Nagsanay siya sa loob ng ilang buwan hanggang sa maging superintendent ng Institution for Sick Gentlewomen in Distressed Circumstances sa London noong 1853. Doon ay kaniyang pinagbuti ang nursing care, working condition, at hospital efficiency.

Noong October 1853 nang sumiklab ang Crimean War matapos salakayin ng Ottoman Empire ang Russia. Sinuportahan ng Britain at France ang Ottoman. Iniulat ng British journalist na si William Howard Russell ang kalunus-lunos na kalagayan ng mga British hospital sa Scutari (Üsküdar), Turkey. Ito ang nagtulak kay British Secretary of State of War Sidney Herbert na himukin si Nightingale na pangasiwaan ang mga nurse sa Scutari. Noong October 21, 1854, nilisan ni Nightingale ang London kasama ang 38 kababaihan at nagtungo sa Barrack Hospital sa Scutari. Dumating siya noong November 1854. Tumambad kay Nightingale ang kalagayan ng ospital - madumi, siksikan, kulang sa suplay, at hindi organisado. Nakadagdag pa ang hindi pakikipagtulungan ng mga medical worker. Nakadagdag pa sa problema ang pagdagsa ng mga sugatang sundalo mula sa Battle of Balaklava at Battle of Inkerman. Binansagan ni Nightingale ang ospital bilang “Kingdom of Hell.” Bilang naatasan, pinagbuti niya ang kalagayan ng ospital. Siniguro niya ang kalinisan at pagkalinga sa mga sundalo. Tinulungan din niya ang mga ito na makapagpadala ng mga liham sa kani-kanilang pamilya at pinagkalooban ng edukasyon at pampalipas-oras. Sa gabi, personal niyang iniinspeksyon ang mga ward gamit ang kaniyang lampara, dahilan upang bansagan siyang "Lady with the Lamp."

Kinilala ang naging kontribusyon ni Nightingale. Gayunman, lumabas sa mga makabagong pananaliksik na may problema sa mga naiulat na mortality rate sa kaniyang pagdating sa ospital. Noong May 1855, ipinadala siya sa Crimea ngunit siya ay dinapuan ng Crimean fever (brucellosis). Iginapo siya ng sakit sa loob ng dalawang dekada. Sa pagtatapos ng Crimean War noong March 30, 1856, nakabalik si Nightingale sa England noong August 7, 1856. Sa England, pinagbuti niya ang healthcare, nursing, ospital, at military medicine. Noong September 1856 nang makipagpulong siya kay Queen Victoria at Prince Albert upang ilahad ang reporma sa British military medical system. Ang kaniyang pagsisilbi bilang statistician ay nakatulong sa mga repormang ipinatupad ng Royal Commission. Noong 1855 nang buuin ang Nightingale Fund na lumikom ng pondo para sa Nightingale School of Nursing sa St. Thomas' Hospital sa London, na nagbukas noong 1860. Ginawaran siya ng Lady of Grace ng Order of St. John of Jerusalem at nakatanggap ng Order of Merit noong 1907, ang kauna-unahan para sa isang babae.

Pumanaw siya noong August 13, 1910 sa edad na 90. Bilang pagkilala sa kaniyang natatanging ambag sa mundo ng nursing, ipinagdiriwang ang International Nurses Day sa kanyang kaarawan.

As our 4th Year BS nursing students move closer to completing their nursing education and preparing for the Philippine Nurse Licensure Examination (PNLE), this seminar is designed to sharpen their critical thinking, clinical judgment, prioritization, question-analysis, and test-taking skills.

We are privileged to welcome Prof. Mark Aron Martirez, RN, LPT, National Lecturer for the Philippine Nurse Licensure Examination (PNLE), who will share practical and high-yield strategies to help our future nurses approach nursing examination questions with greater confidence, accuracy, and sound clinical reasoning.
